For a while this evening, many users saw the "Sigh, a technical error" message when trying to post.
We believe this problem to be fixed. If you were having this trouble, please start your posting over from scratch.
Thanks for your patience.

"IMPORTANT - YOUR CREDIT CARD PAYMENT WASN'T CORRECT !!!"
This is not a legitimate craigslist email message!
More details soon ....
Sorry for the hassle.
Users reporting trouble posting with default Blackberry browser and WebTV
Seems to be related to a lack of javascript and/or iframe support.
We're working the recaptcha folks to find a fix, thanks for your patience.
In the meantime, Blackberry users are encouraged to try Opera Mini, which works very well with the verification word.
We think we've squished all the bugs in this section. If you're still seeing any of them, let us know at the help desk.
Earlier, the "enter email address" field in the posting form was occasionally showing up as disabled, or the second "enter your email again" field was missing.
This should be completely corrected now. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Posting images will be disabled for a bit while we upgrade parts of the image system
Site search was broken for about a half hour this evening. Everything got back to normal around 6PM Pacific, so please carry on searching for whatever you need this evening.
Email to Hotmail and MSN is now working normally.
outage on recaptcha server, waiting for ETA on a fix
we're poking around for a fix
(vigorously accelerated poking)
We'll be in read-only mode (no new postings) between 10pm and 2am tonight while we improve the network at our San Francisco data center. Burn a candle or hold out a lighter for us-- we'll be back ASAP.
Some version of IE have a security setting that will prevent the verification image from displaying properly. We're working on a fix, but in the meantime, here's a workaround:
- Tools-> Internet Options
- Click Security Tab
- Click Custom Level
- scroll down to "Display Mixed Content"
- click the "Prompt" radio button.
- click OK all they way back out.
We had a little meltdown on the master forums database. Working on it now.
Sorry for any trouble.
Forum database replaced and it looks like we're back. Still monitoring for further breakage, but so far so good.
A bad switch config brought down posting and account access for about 15 minutes. The change has been reverted-- followed by swearing and general feelings of shame. Sorry for the hassle.
Bandcon found and fixed a faulty cable. Things should be stable.
We're experiencing some mail system blowback from the recent comcast incident:

If you're using comcast, your mail will definitely be delayed.
UPDATE: Comcast mail should be flowing again normally. Thanks for your patience.
If you have had trouble phone authenticating your account and got the retry limit error page. Please try your request again. We've hopefully fixed a bug where people who retried in less then 60 seconds got locked out. This should now be fixed.
Between 6:10 and 8:00 PDT this evening, uploaded images for new posts were not appearing.
This is now fixed, and no uploaded images were actually lost.
If your post is displaying incorrectly, please use your edit/delete link either to make a trivial edit to the post, or to delete and undelete it. Be sure to make your browser also do a hard refresh to be sure you're seeing the freshest copy.
A small number of users are having trouble with the verification word during the posting process. If you experience this problem, try completely starting over from the "post to classifieds" link on your city's homepage.
If you continue to have problems, please visit our help desk forum and give the friendly volunteers the specifics of your operating system and browser environment.
Update 3/14 8pm: Please also tell the helpdesk who your internet service provider is. Thanks.
Update 3/19 8pm: We believe this to be fixed, with just a few sporadic reports of further trouble.
Updated Sat, Jul 28 - 13:01 PDT
we're getting reports like these:
- "I get post all filled out, then upload my pics, then press the continue button, it takes a very long time, then the page comes up error"
- "I have selected my picture and clicked continue then nothing happens."
Many folks have been able to resolve the issue by reducing the size of images they are trying to upload. Tech staff is investigating.
Our tech team worked for many hours to restore full functionality to the site. It turns out that database servers don't like to have the electricity switched on and off at random intervals. We had the site in read-only mode for a long stretch during the outage.
As of 1:01AM we went read/write, and as of 1:12AM we're cautiously optimistic we get to go to bed soon.
