Painting an artistic mural in the local school of Isla Venados
Longo Mai, Puntarenas
July 2 - July 20, 2008
Volunteer project: The host of this volunteer project is an association of local fishermen who live on a very beautiful island called “Isla Venados” (Deer Island) at the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. They work together to promote a better quality of life for the people who live on the Island. One of the most important projects they have is to improve the local school. A group of international volunteers is invited to participate together with local people in this project.
International volunteers and local people will paint an artistic mural in the local school on the island. They will also help to paint some parts of the school, and will participate in cleaning campaigns on the local beaches with the students of the school.
“Isla Venados” is very small, measuring only 3.5 square kilometers and has only 1100 inhabitants. Just 105 years ago it was like any other tropical island in the area, but today anyone who is in the vicinity cannot avoid traveling to this tropical island paradise. It is known for its beautiful dry forest reserve, beautiful beaches, amazing flora and fauna and now for its new developments.
