We are recruiting people to come cook and/or serve vegetarian food (every Sunday we do this), to bring down to Skid Row in Downtown LA. "Food Not Bombs is organized according to anarchist principles of non-hierarchy and decentralization. We take food that would otherwise be thrown away and make healthy, vegan meals for the hungry", blah, blah, all that good stuff... i.e. we're down for the cause.

Since 1996 this project have been organized together with the Michoacan University and an organization called Ecotonia. This year the volunteers will work with the people of the village to protect the sea turtle, by collecting eggs, burying them in the turtle camp, taking care of the baby turtles and doing some work collecting statistical information about the turtles. In this frame a group of international volunteers will be involved in the project, as members of the staff, which means that the volunteers will be very involved in the project and the work.

The goal of this project is to protect the turtles and to help run the conservation activities of the protection turtle program promoting the international cooperation and international solidarity.
The main work consists in collecting turtle eggs, burying them again in a secure place, and transporting the baby turtles safely to the sea. This will be carried out mostly at night, together with the people from Colola Village. They are the people who will work with the group and explain what to do. For this camp we will need very motivated volunteers who really want to get involved with the work of protection of the turtle.
There are also some extra activities to do with the local people - to help improve the town like putting names of the streets, helping to arrange a multi-use playground and maybe some cleaning work.

The official language of the workcamp is English. Some Spanish would be appreciated.

Construction of a teachers house at Mnkhanya community school in Mfuwe
August 11 - August 24, 2008

Mfuwe is located in the south Luangwa National Park area in the East of Zambia. It is about 685 km away from the capital city Lusaka and 100 km from the provincial capital Chipata. It is 25 kilometers from the park's main entrance. Mfuwe is one of the busiest destinations for tourists coming to Zambia and has one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in the world.

Volunteer project: The volunteer project is organised in support of Mnkhanya community school. The school was initiated by volunteers and the community for the children in Mnkhanya chiefdom, who otherwise have to walk kilometers to the nearest school. The workcamp participants will be moulding bricks for the construction of a teachers house at the Mnkhanya community school.
Volunteers will have study sessions on girl child education and the impact of HIV/AIDS on child's education. Environmental conservation issues will be discussed as well.
Language: English

Accommodation: Volunteers will be accommodated in grass thatched houses or in tents.

The volunteer project aims at establishing intercultural social contact between the children and young people from different countries, improving the communication abilities of the children in informal environment, support in organizing different cultural and sports events, offering opportunity for the children to learn practical and living skills and habits for self-dependant living.

"Rodopski pansion" is one of the biggest social establishments of that kind in Bulgaria providing home and care for more than 140 young people at the ages of 5 to 16 years. The socially disadvantaged background of most of the children is considered to be the reason for many problems, which they face in school, in their contacts with other people, in their everyday life. The interaction with other young people from different countries, while working, playing, learning together in the frame of an international volunteer project is essential for the socialization and adaptation of the youngsters from the Orphanage.

The volunteers will be organizing variety of activities like: sports events, gardening, group games, thematic workshops, walks in the city of Plovdiv, visits to different sights and events, etc. for the children and the youngsters in order to optimize their free time during the summer break. Some maintenance and domestic works will be done together with the residents.

Ages: Volunteers should be from 18 to 35 years old

Plovdiv is the second largest Bulgarian city, crossroad of different cultures with more than 6000 years history. Organising recreational and educational activities for kids in an English holiday camp
October 18 - November 2, 2008

Volunteer project: The volunteer project will take place close to the city of Hat Yai, in the Songhkla province (Southern Thailand). Volunteers have contributed to the activities of several schools in the neighbourhoods since 1998, particularly by holding lessons and activities in English for the children. Out of the lessons given by the volunteers during the school year, English camps have been regularly organised during the holidays for the kids of the surroundings. This is the topic of this project.

The volunteers will organise recreational and educational activities in English for the children (6 to 12 years old) of the neighborhoods during this �English holiday camp� which will take place in the project base close to the city of Hat Yai.

Study theme: The volunteers will be introduced to the non-formal education techniques.

This volunteer project aims to support Mshimba High School in Coast province, Taita Taveta District, Kenya. The mission of the School is to provide quality education to the students for a better tomorrow and their goal is to make the institution a centre of academic excellence. The School's motto is "Education for Progress".

Mshimba High School was started in 1989 by the community and later on the Government took over. The school is managed by a board of governors. It is a mixed school for boys and girls, with boarding facilities for boys only. There are 4 classes from grade 1 to 4. The school has 140 students in total. The number of staff is 8 teachers and 5 non-teaching staff. The school offers 11 subjects: Math, English, Kiswahili, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Agriculture, History, Geography, Business Studies and Computer (IT).

Volunteer work: Volunteers' major duties include:
� Teaching the pupils English, Math, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and IT;
� Running extra curriculum activities such as Drama, Theater, Music, environmental activities; � Teaching Sports;
The volunteers will be working from Monday to Saturday, Monday to Friday - 5 hours a day and Saturday - 3 hours.

Special requirements: English, Math, Physics, Chemistry, Physical Education/Sports and Biology teachers are needed. Knowledge and experience in teaching the aforementioned subjects is mandatory. Information Technology (IT) teachers are highly required, but the school has only one computer. This is not sufficient to teach the whole class, but the school is in the process of getting more computers.
We have an open policy and applicants with other ideas to share are also welcome to apply and will be considered.
Volunteers need to contribute/initiate ideas and by that would be promoting the growth of the School. This is an opportunity for the volunteers to work at a community/grassroot level in capacity building and training in self-sustainability.

Duration of the project: The schools in Kenya run from January to April, from May to August and from September to November. The time frame is open.

Armenian grandmother needs company at airport (LAX)

My 82 year old grandmother went from Lebanon to Australia. Now she is going from Australia to LAX then LAX to Boston. There is an 8 hour stop over in LAX from approximately 1:30pm to 9:30pm on August 5th, 2008. I'm looking for a volunteer that speaks one of her languages and English to, to be there for her at LAX airport during the stop over, just to talk to her, or maybe help her get refreshments, or show her where the bathroom is etc. She only speaks Armenian, Turkish and Arabic. So she will be kind of stranded there for all that time with no way to communicate with anyone if she needs anything. She can walk, but no long distances so she will be in a wheel chair. Is there anyone out there with the heart, time, and will do be kind enough do this wonderful person this incredible favor? Thanx for listening.

This project has been organised since 2001 in the reserve called "Monte San Giacomo". This place has a remarkable naturalistic and historical importance, thanks to ancient medieval ruins located under a typical 18th century �Crotto". It is said that this place, called a Nemeton (= holy wood), was a holy place for Celtic people. The Varese district is also known for its beautiful lakes and many different kind of vegetation, such as chestnut, beech trees, and peaty-marshy areas rich of animals.

Volunteers will work on path maintenance and cleaning, and will also be involved in the mushrooms and pumpkin local fair, that will take place on October 5th.

Volunteer project: Volunteers will prepare together with farmers of the town nurseries of fertilizing and forest species, and this way will prepare the coming season of reforestation. During the project, volunteers will have talks with the farmers about the ravages of anarchic bush fires. The workcamp participants will also plant some trees. Volunteers will organize activities on environmental education for the children so that the work already done last forever.

Volunteers' tasks consist of filling sachets, putting nurseries in the sachets and watering them, land clearance, planting the seedlings. Volunteers will work 5 hours per day. They will be free in the afternoons and can join various cultural activities with the local people.

Location: As a historical town that gave its name to the nowadays country of Togo, Togoville was the place where the Germans signed a treaty of protectorate with the African authorities in 1884. This town is the source of the Voodoo culture and other traditional rites.
The reforestation project is for protecting the coast of Lac Togo and an area of historical importance. Lac Togo is one of the biggest lakes in Western Africa and it is the biggest in Togo.

Volunteer project: Sidorejo Village is part of the Kajoran Sub-district of the Magelang Regency in Central Java. The village is located 25 km north of Yogyakarta and 86 km south of Semarang. The Mageland regency is known at international level as the residence of Borobudur and Prambanan Temples. Most of the villagers are farmers and the households can mainly be considered as low income ones. Through this project, the volunteers will support the educational development of the children and the youngsters of Sidorejo by supporting the local school and providing different courses (English, hygiene, environmental education, etc).
The volunteers will renovate school bookshelves (painting, renovating), teach English, and promote personal hygiene.

Study theme: The volunteers will be introduced to the Indonesian culture and customs in general, with a special focus on the Javanese particularities. Some cultural visits are also foreseen.

In Reykjavik you can experience easily the pure energy at the heart of Iceland's capital city - whether from the boiling thermal energy underground, the natural green energy within the city and around it. Think of the qualities of a great city - fun, space, clean air, nature, culture - and Reykjavik has them in spades. It has the features of a modern, forward-looking society which are complemented by a close connection to beautiful nature. The population of the Reykjavik Capital Area is about 200,000. Reykjavik is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean on almost all sides. In the summer, you can sit by the harbour at midnight and watch the sun dip slightly below the horizon before it makes its way up again.
The world�s northernmost capital is framed by the majestic Mt. Esja, which keeps a watchful eye on the city, and the blue waters of Faxafloi Bay. On a sunny day, the mystical Snaefellsjokull glacier appears crystal-like on the western horizon, while mountainous moonscapes spread to the southeast.

The volunteers will be hosted by the City of Reykjavik and their tasks are the following: In Reykjavik we have a lot of youngsters who are tagging the houses in the center of the city. We will help the local authorities to clean up those signs and than we will help the youngsters to make their tags or graffiti in places were they are allowed to make their art. We will do some environmental work in the green areas near to the center of the city.

Study theme: We will have two workshops in this project: Percussion and Photography. The participants will have the chance to learn to play percussions and we will have a professional teacher guiding and teaching the volunteers. We will also have a professional photographer leading the project so participants should bring their cameras to learn how to shoot photos in a better way. On the 23rd of August, we will join the Cultural night of Reykjavik. We will have the opportunity to perform in the streets that night and also to enjoy this biggest cultural event in Iceland 2008.

Clinical Research Study - Constipation with Pain Medication (Los Angeles)

Do you experience constipation caused by your pain medication?

Constipation is one of the most common effects of pain medication,
and it can be very uncomfortable--even debilitating.
We are currently involved in a clinical research trial of an investigational
drug to see if it can relieve constipation caused by pain medicine.

You may be eligible if you:

Are 18 years or older
Have had non-cancer pain for at least 2 months
Experience constipation caused by prescription opioid pain medication
All study-related care is provided at no charge, including study -related
physical exams, lab services, and study medication or placebo.
Participants may be reimbursed up to $650 for time and travel.

Do you get a good night sleep, still feel tired and un-refreshed when you wake up?
If so, you may want to participate in a research study for adults with non-restorative sleep.

Volunteers Needed: Pomegranate Study for HIV-Positive Individuals (West Hollywood)

This is a 10-week placebo-controlled study to evaluate the effects of 2 pomegranate formulations on the quality of life of HIV-positive individuals. Compensation of $25 per study visit is available after enrollment. Following Week 10, volunteers who were on placebo will receive 8 weeks of pomegranate formulation.

Basic Study Requirements:
� HIV-1 positive adults at least 18-years of age;
� No current use of immune modulating therapies;
� Treatment na�ve or not currently on antiretroviral therapy (ART) for at least 90 days;
� CD4 cell count above 350.
