Ranker (http://ranker.com) is a startup consumer website in the user-generated content space. We have an ambitious site with a lot of potential for growth, and we are currently looking for one or two key people to help us get there. Essentially, we need help with social media marketing - the bucket of things from blog reachout to Twitter to Digg to linkbuilding and some aspects of PR.

The Social Media position is Coordinator-level, potentially Manager-level depending on experience. We'd want to see at least a minimum of 1 year experience at a position or positions where all or at least a good chunk of your duties revolved around social media marketing or promotion, and/or Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Compensation: $35K-$46K depending on experience.

Our startup is small (currently less than 10 people), and as everyone wears multiple hats it is a big plus if you also bring to the table some knowledge or experience in any of these areas: basic SEO knowledge, ability to read basic HTML code, blogging experience, ad ops knowledge, affiliate program experienc, brand and biz-dev reachout.

Having contacts in the overall consumer online ecosystem is also a big plus.

Since we may be able to also fill a second, very entry level, position, we're also accepting applications from candidates with only a small amount, or potentially even zero, experience in SEO, who have the desire and ability to learn quickly and thoroughly while on the job. Those candidates must have a proven record of experience and interest in the social web and or online content creation as a whole, as well as the focus, drive and work ethic required to research and learn everything there is to know about SEO. We can spend some energy training you, but this isn't the kind of situation where you will get 4 weeks of on the job full-time training before you start - we expect you to have soaked up some of the blogs and knowledge that is out there, and a lot of our "training" will be "here's what to do. here's an example of what other people have done. google it". Basically, we're not going to be calling you in unless you can show us in a resume or cover letter that you live for the web and want to turn it into your career. If you want to learn SEO, for example, this could be a great opportunity to learn a lot, pay your dues and progress your career quickly. The bottom line is that we need people who are self-starters, and who are invested in this job as an opportunity to grow within the industry, or within our company. NOTE: if you are applying for the entry level position please note that in the subject line of your email.

Either position will include equity and medical benefits. Please note that we aren't looking for consultants.

Requirements:

-Must be on top of the latest developments and trends in the social media world, and must be deeply interested and involved in the internet industry as a whole. You will be grilled on this so no point in trying to fake it.

-Must be in LA area (our offices are in Hollywood) - this is not a "flexible/work from home" position.

-Must speak and write well in English, and be able to effectively communicate with your coworkers, both on-site and offshore.

-Must be able to work well in a collaborative office environment, and have some strong organizational skills as you will be creating/running scalable systems for delegating tasks.

-Must be computer savvy. Must also be able to troubleshoot your own computer, hook up your own phone, get your own coffee, etc. We are a startup, so there is no room for egos around here, and everyone will be called upon to do things that are not 'in their job description.' Everybody at Ranker wears multiple hats, and you will be expected to as well.

-Must be able to work in both a fast-paced and detail-driven environment. Things move very quickly here, and we're on a weekly release cycle, so you must be able to multi-task efficiently. At the same time, Ranker is a very complex operation, and the details are vital to its success. So, you must be able to move quickly through various types of tasks without neglecting the details or documentation of your work. If you don't consider your abilities to focus on multiple tasks in a given day to be a strength, it's not going to work out for you here.

-Must recognize that this is a great opportunity for someone to get their foot in the door. The startup environment is not for everyone; in order for a startup to succeed, everyone on board is required to just "get things done", which usually means you will work harder, longer and under more pressure than at an established company. It is exciting, fast-paced and extremely collaborative, with a huge potential to pave the way for a very successful future for everyone involved. It's also an interesting, broad social/media site with a unique spin and a good chance to become a well-known internet brand. If those payoffs outweigh some long hours and lack of a large corporate infrastructure, then this is the place for you.

How To Apply: Send resume, cover letter and salary expectations to jobs@ranker.com. Please also tell us which blogs/websites you visit regularly, why you are applying for this position, your first impressions (including any negative ones) of Ranker.com, and what you think you bring to the table for Ranker. If you have a blog/public social page/twitter account etc we highly recommend you include this info as it may help us pick your resume out of a large pool.
