| Kayaking in Strong Beach
Sunday, May 25, 2008 at 9:45AM The days are getting warmer and one can feel summer fast approaching. Ever try kayaking? It's lots of fun. Come enjoy the scent of fresh salt air as you exercise in a great workout! Kayaks On the Water is located in Alamitos Bay, Long Beach. These quiet canals have little boat traffic and so it's an ideal place to practice kayaking for the experienced and beginners alike. We might even see people doing dragon-boat racing!
If we can get 20 or more people together, then it'll be $5 an hour with a minimum of 2hrs (hence $10 per person) Otherwise, it'll simply be $8 per person each hour. Understandably, 9:45am is quite early for a Sunday morning. However, please do keep in mind that this is Memorial Day Weekend so you should give yourself ample time for parking. We actually plan on launching at 10:30am so if you miss us, you'll just have to pay the normal price of $8hr.Unless you somehow manage to flip yourself over, you really don't need to worry about the water except during the initial launch. I would recommend wearing flip-flops/sandals/etc. and then anything else to fold up past knee level. There will be both single and double-person kayaks available. Here's a tip, sit in the rear of a 2person so that your partner can stroke while you enjoy the view!
What to see? Well, if you go down this one particular canal, there are Moonjellies at the end! Kinda like jellyfish things. Otherwise, one can dock and go ashore to get Jamba Juice, Starbucks, Ralphs much more strip mall stores. And if we happen to catch high tide, there's a small wildlife refuge where you might see some exotic birds. I expect that we should return to base about 12:30.
Afterwards, if anyone's interested, we'll have a late lunch at MVP's, about 2miles away. Haven't been there myself, but apparently it's good for groups and GREAT for burgers. Apparently, huge homemade style burgers and equally large portions of spectacular fries. Mmm.. makes my mouth water!
