The University of California, Berkeley, is the preeminent public university in the country. We�re also one of the leading employers in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are currently seeking Research Interviewers both English speaking and Spanish/English Bilingual.

This is a public health water quality study. All beach interviewing work will be done on two beaches in Southern California: Doheny Beach in Dana Point, Orange County, California and on Avalon Beach on Catalina Island (West of Long Beach, CA).

Under direct supervision of the Study Coordinators, the incumbents will assist in setting up and taking down the study tents at the approved sites.

The candidates will approach and recruit beach visitors to participate in a public health water quality study. Once a respondent and their families are recruited, research interviewers will administer a brief questionnaire which asks questions about the family's day at the beach and recent health history. All participant recruitments and interviews will be done on the beach and must be conducted by strict study protocols.

All study activities, including recruitment and interviewing for DOHENY BEACH, will be conducted every other WEEKEND including the Labor Day holiday throughout the summer, from August 2, 2008, through September 28th, 2008. Depending on the tide, there may also be some Friday shifts.

INTERVIEWING AT AVALON WILL BE FRIDAYS � SUNDAYS BEGINNING THE WEEK BEFORE THE 4TH OF JULY AND GO THROUGH LABOR DAY.

Incumbents can opt to work at one or both beaches depending on study need.
These positions are temporary (40% time) and will end on 09/01/08 for Avalon and on September 28th, 2008 for Doheny Beach.

Responsibilities:
� Assist with the setup of the beach stations with tents, tables, chairs, study incentives, and all necessary forms
� Walk the beach and approach beach visitors from diverse backgrounds, introducing the water study and its requirements, and ask whether they would like to participate
