To participate in this clinical research study, you must suffer from high blood pressure and be at least 50 years old.
If you qualify and choose to participate, you will receive an initial consultation, study-related examinations, and study medication at no cost to you. Compensation for time and travel may also be provided.
Hospice
Our hospice program provides non-medical services of companionship and emotional support to a terminally ill person and their families. Some of the ways you can help include assisting with letter writing, reading, playing cards or games, listening to music or watching a movie together, and providing a much needed break for a family member.
Bereavement
Facilitate Bereavement Support Groups and help families, children, and adults understand and cope with the loss of loved ones.
What is involved in becoming a volunteer:
* Call and request a volunteer application packet which includes a written application form and 4 references
* Schedule an interview with the client coordinator
* Complete required paperwork regarding health, drivers insurance, and confidentiality agreements
* Successfully complete our training program and mentorship

Care Call Volunteer:
Do you enjoy connecting with people over the phone? If so, our in-office Care Call Volunteer position may be the right opportunity for you. We are seeking volunteers to contact our elderly and bed-bound clients to:
• Talk with them about their day, their week, or their family – just check in.
• Wish them a happy birthday (it feels good when someone remembers)
• Offer support and resources available to them through Cambrian and other community programs.
Activities Volunteer:
If you prefer to act versus chat on the phone, our Activities position is a good option that allows you to interact with our clients and provide one-on-one or group support. In this role you can:
• Assist with our monthly Bingo gatherings – be a caller, assist with preparation, decoration or just be a resource during the event.
• Work with our seniors in our Adult Day Care Center (coming soon) – Coordinate an activity, prepare food, or just socialize with the participants.
Office Support Volunteer:
Perhaps you want to help, but aren’t sure about interacting with clients…we still have things you can do to help!
• Prepare compliment cards and mail them to our caregivers so we can acknowledge their job well done!
• Send condolence cards to family members who have experienced a loss.
• Gather and display testimonials regarding Cambrian services.
Cambrian Cuisine Volunteer:
Do you enjoy cooking? Want to do it for those who can’t do it for themselves?
There is nothing like a home cooked meal and some of our clients don’t have family to prepare it for them or the resources to buy a well balanced meal – you can help!
• Use our on-site kitchen to prepare healthy meals and deliver them to clients who are unable to get out on their own.
• Prepare snacks for our Adult Day Care Center participants.

• Deliver meals
• Take flowers to our clients who make the century mark

Currently I am assigned to the 3RD Brigade, 2ND Infantry Division at
Fort Lewis, Washington. My wife, Sarah, and I have 2 sons and a daughter
on the way in June.
I have been deployed to Iraq twice in support of Operation Iraqi
Freedom. During my first deployment, I came home on leave and found a
beautiful house for my family. I purchased the house and even though it
needed many repairs and updates, I was determined to turn it into our
dream home. Shortly after signing all the paperwork, I returned to Iraq
to complete my tour of duty.
Everything was going fine until my last deployment that ended in
September of 2007. I found out that my mortgage was part of the
sub-prime crisis that has hit the market. My intent was to redeploy in
July, refinance my house for a fixed interest rate, and move on. However
my tour was extended 3 months and I couldn't make it back in time before
the ARM adjusted.
Up to July of 2007, I had kept all my credit card payments current and
was on my way to having a good credit score to refinance with.
In July my APR was 6.5% and in August it was 9.5% and now it has reached
10.85%. My payments went from $850.00 a month to $1390.00 a month. On
top of that I have a second mortgage that I took out to purchase
building materials and other items to bring the house together. I
believe I have done a great job on it. I purchased it at $152,000 and it
now appraises at $300,000.
When my mortgage payments started rising, I couldn't keep up with my
other debt such as credit cards, utilities and so forth. I had to fall
back on my credit cards to keep up with some of the necessities and then
I put all other debts to the side and focused on my mortgage payments
because I didn't want to lose my house. I am now facing losing it though
because I cannot get a lender to even look at me for a refinance.
Because of my delinquency on my credit card debt, my credit score has
plummeted and I can't get it back up to a point where a lender will
assist me.
If I could pay off my credit card debt, and continue with my current
payments on my house for 5-6 months, my broker assures me that my credit
score will go up and I will qualify for a lower interest rate. Or if I
could eliminate my second mortgage, it would free that money up to send
to the creditors. I am willing to seek any avenue it takes. Every month I am barely scraping by and can't
save up any money to make payments on my own.
I have tried for the past 8 months to fix this and I have had a few
organizations donate to me so that I can keep my utilities on, but it's
too little, too late. I don't know what else to do. My wife and kids love
our house and after all the sweat equity I have put into it, I would
hate to have it foreclosed. I just remodeled the upstairs so that my
toddler can move up to his own room and his nursery could be used for
the daughter that is due in 2 months.
If there is anything you can do, can you please help me insure that my
family can stay in our dream home?

I am compiling people’s stories through an anonymous voice mail system! You can say whatever you feel is relevant: the whole story, one encounter, what you experienced through your senses, how it’s impacted your life now, describe your abuser, you can even address your abuser (i.e. tell him/her how you’re life’s changed, how you feel about them, etc), etc, etc.
My hope is that participating will be cathartic to those who’ve been abused and therapeutic for listeners who are survivors too!
