My hope is that she is not like this and is waiting for you to step up to the plate.

I have no idea why you left my mother. Actually, I shouldn’t say that, because she told me why; shortly after she discovered she was pregnant, she told me you threatened to leave her if she didn’t abort me. Well, she had me and true to your word, you left shortly after. Growing up, my mother reminded me how it was my fault she was alone. I suppose I have you to thank for the ‘loving’ relationship I have with her as well.

So yes, this is a ‘missed connection’. A connection that I hate myself for wanting you in my life. A connection that I know will never come yet will continue to long for even though you have no intent to be part of your ‘sons’ life.

I was so excited, trying to help you change, that I never realized that you were never going to change. Where you started you would always be. I hoped, and then I realized that I soon became the enemy for wanting you to give up the very things that would have given you a family and the life you wanted.

I realized that I simply should have realized, that you were going to become exactly who you chose to be, and that I needed to be myself. Unfortunately the thing about being in a relationship, is that there is a certain degree of blindness about what it means to be compatible.

Compatible? Finding happiness? We found those, and then just ate each other apart, because we came from two different worlds: you from a low income, abused home, and me from a large middle class family, with an obsessed, religious parental framework.

You were blaming everything on me no matter what it was. And the things that you did in the beginning, you did all the way to the end. Instead of changing, you made up excuses, so many, and said to so many people, that I forgot who I was, and why I was dating you.

When I got my self esteem back up, I realized that there are simple reasons why people date. Looks, personality, connection, truth, respect.

You failed on all of these, and I was still lost in the dream of saving that little girl, who I thought could become a powerful woman, and just needed someone to believe in her.

Instead, four years later, I found myself completely delusional, and having to look myself in the mirror, and say, wake up, your 31, her dreams are never going to happen, and now, my own dreams are going to go down with her, throwing me back and forth, making me forget what it means to date someone.

So I let go of four years, and all of the wonderful moments, and all of the painful feelings that you were using against me.

I think all along you knew that you were going to be the one thing that you wished you weren't.

Maybe I am too, but I guess compatibility isn't something someone just came up with for a joke, and we can ignore. Somethings just can be reconciled. And crazy child hoods, really, never will be one of those things.

I think.

In the end, when you were playing games, I pushed you away, on a pretense. The words I chose, were to get you to react, and leave me alone. I'm glad they worked, because I would never have been able to leave you, if you had seen my heart, and how much you will always mean to me.

In my heart I think you know this.

We're just two sad little kids, not wanting to grow up and take our place, as adults in this sad, little game called life.

Every now and then, I think we stayed together, and we had a family together in that Thomas Kincaid house.
