Animal Control Worker Allegedly Drowned 50 Kittens (San Bernadino)

ADELANTO (AP) � Adelanto's head animal control officer has resigned as he faces charges in the drowning of nearly 50 kittens.

Kevin Murphy was placed on paid leave in March after prosecutors accused the 36-year-old of drowning the kittens over a four-month period. He faces six counts of animal cruelty.

Kathy Williamson of the Victor Valley Animal Protective League said she took in animals that Adelanto Animal Control workers brought her. She said the city paid her $23 to take in a live cat for up to 10 days; $10 to take a dead one.

City Manager Jim Hart on Tuesday said Murphy's resignation was effective May 1. Murphy couldn't be reached for comment.

Adelanto is about 70 miles northeast of Los Angeles

A baby Leopard tortoise, healthy and cute. He's around 4-6 months old. That's him in the picture below. He feeds on grass, dandelions and hibiscus leaves, and I don't offer him treats to minimize pyramiding. They do get big, so serious inquiries only. They are the 4th largest tortoise, and the second largest mainland tortoise.

Convicted animal abuser Shon Rahrig has moved to Long Beach. He uses craigslist to find animals to torture, both posting and answering ads. He favors calico cats but will also take kittens, adult cats, puppies and older dogs instead. He tends to focus on 'free to good home' ads so he can get free victims. He is believed to post ads full of manipulative lies (see example at end). In addition to craigslist he attends adoption events and shelters and may use newspaper and bulletin board ads so please warn non-craigslist people you know.

Shon Rahrig was spotted at an adoption event in the area. Keep in mind that a person who will repeatedly move to knew states in order to continue torturing animals will likely go to any length to acquire victims! He could show up anywhere. He has lived in a number of cities in California and elsewhere, including down in San Diego, so he is familiar with a range of places. Don't assume you won't encounter him! He used to have a real estate license and company and lived on Sunset Cliffs Blvd in San Diego so it is familiar territory for him. His license expired last year but may have been renewed.

Do you all really think when a turtle hits 4 inches they magically do not pose a risk for disease?

use common sense your gov is lying. And ask yourself this, if they are soooo dangerous, why then is it 100% legally to buy and sell for educational purposes? why would it be legally? why would the gov want these very dangerous animals around our children? because its a lie homie

Do turtles carry the disease? Yes
any more than any other reptile? depends on how you keep it, but pretty much no.

the gov banned the sale of turtles under 4 inch to prevent the release of a non-native species. (just like they did for piranha, they say it carries disease, but its just to prevent the spread ) They just spread disease rumor around to be effective. baby turtles do not promote disease any more than larger ones...... use common sense people. turtles pee and poop in their water, their are crevices in their shell they can house bacteria. a smaller turtle produces less pee and poop than a larger one, and has less surface area for bacteria to grow than larger turtles.

why doesnt anyone ask what about turtles under 4 inch make them more of a risk than larger ones? there is no answer thats why?.....

People were easily breeding these turtles, selling, and eventually releasing. As you can imagine thats not good for local species

any aquatic to semi aquatic reptiles will pose this threat, why didnt the gov ban fire belly toads or poison arrow frogs?????

Hazel is a beautiful original looking brindle golden brown short haired dog with GOLDEN hazel eyes. She has short legs and a long body. She is a small to med size dog and weighs about 27lbs.
Everywhere we go everyone thinks she is so original. She looks like a Stratffordshire terrier and dachshund mix. She is very sweet and gentle. She needs a yard and loves to play. She is extremely friendly. I adopted her for my son, but he is too busy to take care of her and my daughter is allergic to her. She is wonderful with kids,adults, and other dogs...not so sure about other animals. She is almost 90% potty trained and is about 9 months old. She can sit on command. SWEET dog with a great face. She has been spayed, had all her shots, is microchipped and is dewormed. She is fresh and ready to go.

I was looking at all of the "red-listed" dogs, and came across this one. He is the coolest looking dog. A real Low-rider. I wanted to adopt him, but he is dog aggressive (I had 2 behaviorists look at him). If I didn't have my dogs, I would take him in a heartbeat. He is a pit/corgi mix, and is great with people. If someone can please foster or adopt him, it would be so great. he has been at the shelter for so long, and am sure with some TLC and time, he would be a great companion. I feel so bad that I can't take him, I just can't risk my dogs.

Buster was just a pup when he came to us, but he's been here for a few years now and really, really needs a home of his own. He's extremely personable and has had some training. Responds well to commands and is a great all around dog in general - as are most Labs. His coloring is gorgeous and he's just one good dog in general.

Raffles is such a sweet, delicate little guy. We think he is about 2 years old. He's so gentle. At first, he may be a little shy, but after a little time, he will warm up. He's quiet and extremely polite. He loves his cage buddy, Dino, another Chihuahua. The two of them are such happy little guys. I walk them at a local pet rescue, in Westwood. They never cry or bark to get out of their cage. Raffles looks and acts like a deer. He gets along with all dogs and all people. He can be placed just about anywhere and will be fine. He has such a happy, appreciative nature.

I rescued this beautiful 3 years old Jack Russell Terrier Mix (possilbly with poodle) from being euthanized five months ago, she was going to be killed because she has had a ruff time in her few years of life, and so she had some fear issues of strangers, and of other dogs, so I have spent a fortune to have her obedience trained, to help her feel more secure, and help her new family to have command control over her to keep her calm, and so she will be a great little companion doggie from her training skills. But for some reason as adorable as she is, and obedience trained, no one seems to want to give her a chance, she is still shy when people come and meet her, but If you just spend some time with her she will become friendly and affectionate! Poor Dailey has been in a boarding facility for to long now, and even though they care for her very well, I need to get her into a nice home where she can feel loved and cared for!
Dailey though, needs to be in a home without Cats and preferably as the only dog (but possibly an older, mellower dog will be fine) and children that are 12 years and older! And a "secure" yard is important, or If in an apartment, she will need someone who will be with her most of the time!
Please, I am wanting to get her out of the kennel that she has been living in for so long now, and I am willing to pay for Fostering in an approved home (will need to fill out a simple foster application) and all that she will need will be provided for her!

So-called "Bunchers" gather free pets until they have enough for a trip to a Class B Dealer who is licensed by the USDA to sell to sell animals from "random sources" for research.
The Buncher may only get $25 a head for former pets, while a dealer can between $100 - $450 per pet. The Class B dealer probably already has a contract with certain facilities, and will transport them to other areas within a state, even out of state.

There are many, many different types of animal "research," and many types of facilities that use dogs. Almost every cosmetic, household, and chemical product is tested on animals, including former pets obtained from shelters and Class B Dealers. Veterinary schools and medical schools, and even some engineering schools use dogs and cats in classrooms and "research." Textile manufacturers who make products for medical use test and demonstrate on dogs.

Research facilities that use live animals in testing are supposed to be registered with the USDA (though not all are); please see the USDA License and Registration lists on their website to see how many facilities use animals for "research" or product testing in your state.

Our beloved family guinea pig has passed on and we no longer need her cage. It's a really great one and took us a while to find. I haven't take a picture, but can if I have to.

Description: It's 39" long, 21" deep and 13" tall. The base is a light blue plastic and the entire top is open (good for air flow) with an attached wire cage lid and latch. It has a beige plastic "cave" inside with steps to a landing and removable food bowl. It also comes with a good water drinker-thingy and a removable wire corner hay holder. I remember that we paid a lot for it, but now I just want someone to have it that can use it.

Foster/forever home with experienced dog person for cocker spaniel (SFV)

Hello pet lovers!
I am hoping to find a foster/forever home for a sweet cocker spaniel named Justice with a trainer or experienced dog owner!
Here is Justice�s story: I recently rescued Justice, a beautiful cocker spaniel puppy from an LA shelter hours before he was going to be killed. When I first brought him home, I saw that he was having trouble with one of his back legs. The vet said his hip was dislocated and had been for sometime now. That means he was brought to the shelter this way by some cold, uncaring owners, and the problem was neglected! Well, after long overdue surgery, Justice is finally running, jumping, and being the playful puppy he should be.
Unfortunately all of this trauma left him with some emotional scars and Justice is still very fearful of strangers. He is always cuddly and playful with me and people he knows well, so I know he can get there with everyone through just a little patient, personal training.
Justice is a wonderfully sweet, playful dog, looking for someone to show him how to love and trust people again. He is truly one of the most loving and loyal (not to mention adorable) dogs I've ever met, and just needs a second chance.

I do this as a hobby! I have a pair of Freshwater Convict Cichlids (male&female) in my aquarium and they just had babies! Baby frys are free to go to good homes with a small adoption fee of .50 cents per fish! They are still very young and very small! About 1/2 an inch with no color on them yet! I rescued/adopted Emily from the West LA Shelter in January and It Truly Breaks My Heart To Do This: I am looking for a new home for her because after trying endlessly to have her get along with our 2 other dogs she cannot. We realized she needs to be the only dog in the home, she doesn�t like cats and she is not too fond of other dogs (jealous).

She is sweet, house broken, understands sit and catches on quickly! We take her out daily for long walks 1 hr + minimum 30 minutes and we do not chain her, so she needs to have space to roam around and we have had a good experience leaving her inside the house. We like to have our dogs inside, so we feel extremely guilty leaving her outside or leaving her in one room & the other 2 in another room.

She needs to be able to be in a good sized fenced yard. Apparently, her previous owners (which surrendered her to the pound) had her chained outside all the time and did not take good care of her.

She has all her shots, has been de-wormed, and doesn�t make a fuss to get groomed. I want to find her a loving home because she is sweet and makes a great companion.

Hello dear Southern Californian bird lovers:

I am posting here today, because after all, we share in common we live in the same wonderful United States and also on the same Planet Earth and we know Californians have a great heart when it comes helping out.

Here is our story:

We have appreciated and loved exotic birds since our chilhoods, this love increased even more as we became adults and now that we are retired we would love to give all of our extra time and care to a parrot in need.

We have in our home a special atrium/bird room filled with semi-tropical plants, a lovely water fountain, etc...truly a little bit of Paradise for any bird to live in such environment.

By the way, we are not people trying to breed any birds, just two kind retired adults trying to do our best in helping birds that need that loving home.

In the past week a very nice lady in your area on this Craig's List gave her Yellow Nape Amazon away for free including the cage, and today some other nice folks sold for just $100.00 (including a fancy cage for free) another Yellow Nape. We mention this now to you, because it is not impossible if Karma and the right luck is on one's side to get a bird like those. God knows, we tried very hard to get those birds and in spite of all those wondefful and true things we mentioned in our e-mails to these folks, unfortunately we were not the ones chosen.

We can assure you that not everyone who likes parrots have the knowledge we acquired through the years, nor the extra time and dedication we can offer....so if there is a kind soul out there on this Craig's List who reads this posting now and can be of kind help to us, and not just to us, because whatever bird we get, we will provide this pet bird with all sorts of extra care and love, that bird too will get the benefit to have been placed with us.....and live like 'Royalty'.....and we don't want to come out sounding arrogant on this posting, but we are truly proud that we care and respect 'flaura and fauna' here on this Planet Earth and that we are trying to do is to give to a distressed or a sad parrot a new warm loving home with us.

I have no idea who can help. I know there are oganizations who will call her first to set up a time to interview her - she is very protective of her abuse and will hide the dog....

Who can help? I already know about HSUS.
I need radical help. Someone who can make sure this dog gets rescued!

I volunteered a while ago for a dog rescue facility in the high desert area and i am wondering if i am the only person to experience these things ?

The facility was dirty,over run with crap filled blankets,mice/rat filled dog food and the dogs covered in ticks ! I washed and walked as many as i could but the "owner" rarely came out of her house and the "workers" there were all gone by lunch time.

This "rescuer" apparently is one of the best ! anyone else experience this ?
