Gwendy Mendez's cherished white, toy poodle, Mitzi, has been missing since May 6th following a home burglary. The dog was either stolen or turned loose during the burglary in the city of Winnetka around the cross streets of Winnetka and Vanowen. Mitzi could be anywhere by now if someone picked her up wandering the streets. She could have been given or sold to someone, or adopted out to a new home.

Gwendy, wheelchair bound, and currently hospitalized following surgery, needs all the help she can get in finding her beloved canine companion. She needs to somehow continue the search for Mitzi while she is recovering from surgery, or Mitzi could end up lost forever. Gwendy's recovery is very slow, but she is getting better every day. She needs your continued help and prayers to find her beloved Mitzi. Gwendy loves and misses Mitzi more than you can imagine. She is very worried about Mitzi's fate. Please watch for Mitzi in any way you can and forward any leads so they can be checked upon. There is a generous reward offered for Mitzi's safe return.

MITZI'S DESCRIPTION: Mitzi is a white, purebred, toy poodle with chin length ears, a black nose, and an uncropped, longer, wild hair tail. Mitzi is four years old and is spayed. She weighed 16 pounds when she went missing and was freshly groomed. Be aware, Mitzi may look different now with her fur grown out and ungroomed. She may appear more like a little, shaggy, white dog and not your average poodle. Mitzi has flea allergies.

Many of you have been helping in the search for Mitzi. Thank you for your kind hearts and for the many leads you have sent my way. My computer is up and running again, and I am doing what I can to keep people aware of this heartbreaking situation and to motivate people to continue watching and searching. It's a difficult task and an unusual situation. I truly believe that with extra help and public vigilance, Gwendy may still have a chance of recovering Mitzi. PLEASE HELP!

Although you are welcome to try to contact Gwendy's family from the contact information on Gwendy's site, be aware that they are stressed and preoccupied with Gwendy's current health crisis. They may not be able to deal with screening all of the possible Mitzi leads at this time. If you'd prefer, you can send leads to me via Craigslist, and I will try to check on them. Any leads that are not immediately discounted, will be forwarded to the family along with your e-mail address or contact information. Gwendy's sister is supposed to be checking the e-mail address Gwendy established for this site. I am not sure how often this is being maintained.

Be aware that the reward for Mitzi has increased beyond what Gwendy was originally offering for Mitzi's safe return.

SECOND TIP ON THE HOMELESS MAN: The tall, bearded, homeless man who was seen by a Craigslister walking a unkept, little, white poodle (who may or may not be Mitzi) was last sighted at Vons Grocery Store on Topanga near Roscoe in Canoga Park this past Monday. Please watch for this man as he wanders the area. It is possible that he may have rescued Mitzi from the Winnetka area as she was running loose on the streets and kept her with him for safe keeping. He may not have seen Gwendy's postings or know of her offer of the huge reward. The man appears to be treating the little dog with kindness. Please inform us as soon as possible if you happen to see this man and the dog. We would like to gently talk with him to find out if the dog could be Mitzi after all. If this man has Mitzi, it would help explain why she hasn't turned up in the shelters or the rescues, etc.
