The following domestic rats and mice are available for adoption. According to the Sunday LA Times Parade (4/6/08), "Surprisingly Pets," Dr. Karen Halligan states states that "Domestic rats (don't confuse them with their disease-carrying wild cousins) can learn their names, come when called and even fetch. They're quiet and clean, but they have a habit of nibbling on things, so keep their play area free of wires and clothing. Tubes and toys are OK. Rats eat both plant and animal foods, and can even be litter-trained. A typical lifespan is two to three years." (page 14).
