The purpose of this study is to see if the study drug, cream, is effective on Herpes Zoster symptoms when they begin. This study will compare the study drug cream to a placebo cream, plus Valtrex (Valacyclovir) or placebo.

Study drug and study procedures will be made available to you at no cost.

To qualify, you must:

o Be at least 18 years old

o Be diagnosed with Herpes Zoster

You will not qualify if you:

o Are pregnant or breast-feeding

o Have received immunosuppressive drug therapy within the last 3 months

o Have received 5-fluorouracil, Tegafur, Capecitabine, or Doxifluridin within the last 6 month

o Have Herpes Zoster ophthalmicus

o Have a history of positive test results for hepatitis B surface antigen, hepatitis C virus or human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) antibodies

o Have participated in a clinical drug or device trial within the last 30 days

The City of Los Angeles Department of Aging (LADOA) provides services to enhance the quality of life for seniors by promoting health, dignity, and independence.

Volunteer Task: Job Skills Mentor

Mentors will train seniors on job skills, such as resume writing, using email and the internet, and working with Microsoft Word and Excel. Mentoring may occur one-on-one or in a small group. With each senior or small group of seniors, mentoring will be for 6 to 8 weeks, once a week, and for 60 to 90 minutes each session. Attempts will be made to have the mentoring occur close to the volunteer�s home, but the volunteer is responsible for their own transportation. Mentoring can occur during the week or on the weekend. During the business day, mentoring can occur at our office on Wilshire Boulevard. For mentoring during the evening or on the weekend, alternate sites will be determined. Attempts will be made to have these locations close to both the home of the mentor and of the senior, and locations can include libraries or other public locations. Volunteers must have good communication skills and be experienced with email, word processing applications, and other computer skills. Desired qualifications include experience teaching or training, and a focus on organization and follow-through. Bilingual volunteers are encouraged to apply.

We are starting a 12-Step program in the West Valley. Woodland Hills, Tarzana, Winnetka, Canoga Park, Encino area is where we need to establish our meetings.

At first we should only be meeting once weekly, but we may meet more often if there is lot of increased activity. The meetings should last about two to three hours. We won't be able to pay very much at first, as we are restricted to accepting only small donations (in abidance with the 12-Step AA philosophy).

We�re currently looking for volunteers between the ages of 30 and 80, who are not achieving blood sugar control while taking 2 or 3 oral medications for diabetes control, are not taking insulin and have had type 2 diabetes for at least 2 years, to take part in a clinical research study to test approved alternative treatments.
If you choose to participate and then qualify for the study, you�ll receive your study medication, a glucose meter and all your study related physical examinations at no cost to you.

We are inviting people with fibromyalgia, IBS, interstitial cystitis, chronic pain, and other chronic and recurring conditions to sign up and participate in a year-long Internet-based survey to study the effectiveness of alternative medicine and the interactions among stress and coping, pain, and treatment outcomes.

The survey is called PROCAIM, which stands for Patient-Reported Outcomes from Complementary, Alternative, and Integrative Medicine. PROCAIM was developed under a grant to UCLA researchers from the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

This is a web-based study composed of surveys that will recur at intervals over 1 year!

Volunteer Task: Job Skills Mentor

Mentors will train seniors on job skills, such as resume writing, using email and the internet, and working with Microsoft Word and Excel. Mentoring may occur one-on-one or in a small group. With each senior or small group of seniors, mentoring will be for 6 to 8 weeks, once a week, and for 60 to 90 minutes each session. Attempts will be made to have the mentoring occur close to the volunteer�s home, but the volunteer is responsible for their own transportation. Mentoring can occur during the week or on the weekend. During the business day, mentoring can occur at our office on Wilshire Boulevard. For mentoring during the evening or on the weekend, alternate sites will be determined. Attempts will be made to have these locations close to both the home of the mentor and of the senior, and locations can include libraries or other public locations. Volunteers must have good communication skills and be experienced with email, word processing applications, and other computer skills. Desired qualifications include experience teaching or training, and a focus on organization and follow-through. Bilingual volunteers are encouraged to apply.

She (the artist) works through dreams... and creates her paintings from images/visions seen during sleep, or meditation.

In those images appear symbols, and she needs someone who does computer graphics work to render these images in 3D software, to place in a new section of her art website, for people to view. There are somewhere between 10 to 20 symbols to render. When looking at the paintings themselves as they are in the website gallery, the symbols cannot be seen very well.

Also, she is considering doing a print art catalog of the artwork and symbols, in which the person who renders the symbols would also receive name credit.

This is something that can be great for someone building their graphics portfolio, to show their capabilities to potential clients, and for exposure through my website, and catalog.
