A Los Angeles area based real estate investment manager is seeking a Fund Controller to join its team in their Los Angeles, California office.
Fund Controller is responsible for direct supervision of all financial and accounting functions for both open ended and closed-ended, commercial real estate value funds which are private and not publicly traded (Funds). The Funds invest primarily in higher risk commercial real estate assets on behalf of tax exempt institutional investors. Investments include joint ventures, structured finance arrangements, mezzanine debt investments, development opportunities and other similar investments.
Primary responsibilities include supervision of the monthly close process for individual assets, review of property management reports, review of valuations, calculating promotes for joint venture investments, net realizable value analysis, hypothetical liquidation analysis, collectibility analysis for loans receivable, calculation of earnings for participating notes receivable, performing consolidations, calculating minority interest, annual and quarterly financial reporting, and supervision of quarterly return calculations. The Fund Controller will also be part of a team that creates and implements policies and procedures to identify, resolve and document accounting issues in addition to creating procedures to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the close and reporting processes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Review the monthly and quarterly accounting close process including analytical review of consolidated operating results and cash flows to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained
Preparation and review of the annual and quarterly financial statements and related footnotes for each of the Funds
Review of the quarterly investor report that includes the Fund financial statements
Preparation and review of quarterly return calculations included in the investor reports. These return calculations are performed at the fund level, property level and at the investor level.
Calculate monthly internal rates of return
Supervise accounting seniors and staff
PREREQUISITES:
Education:
Bachelors and/or Masters Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting. The degree should be obtained from a well recognized university.
C.P.A. required
Knowledge of real estate finance and yield analysis
Experience:
7+ years experience in the accounting and finance sector.
Big Four or national accounting firm audit experience preferred with experience at the manager level
Strong experience in both the private and public accounting sectors
