We currently are renting a place in Monrovia but are looking for a place preferably somewhere in Covina, Glendora, San Dimas or La Verne for our church to hold weekend services in.

We are looking for a place we can be a blessing to, possibly even work hand in hand in with. We are looking for a place where we can meet on Saturday nights, as well as on Sunday mornings and Sunday evenings, though all times are flexible.

Shifu Qichen Guo is a Taijiquan virtuoso from Wenxian County in Henan Province, the birthplace of Taijiquan, where he studied for nearly thirty years with Grandmasters Chen Xiaowang, Chen Zhenglei and Zhang Zhijun. Since his arrival in Los Angeles a dedicated following of students and experienced practitioners has quietly gathered to his side.

Shifu teaches a three-hour Tuesday night class at the Honnanise Center, 3061 W Valley Blvd (at Westmont Drive) in Alhambra (91803). Classes begin at 7:00 PM�

Shifu�s instruction focuses on the Three Pillars of Taijiquan Practice:

7:00 PM - Zhan Zhuang Qigong - �standing post exercises,� (also referred to as standing Chi Kung) relieves stress, and improves one�s circulation, digestion and respiration, thus increasing the amount of qi, or energy one has at one�s disposal. Regular practice also imparts proper alignment and builds internal strength. As such Zhan Zhuang Qigong serves as a firm foundation for the practice of internal martial arts like Taijiquan (or Tai Chi Chuan).

8:00 PM - Chen Style Taijiquan (or Tai Chi Chuan) � For students who want to learn how to use and express the internal energy developed in qigong practice, as well as those who are curious about Chen Style Taijiquan movement. The introductory 18-posture short forms are ideal for these purposes. It does not take long to learn and imparts a good sense of how Chen style movement differs from that seen in Yang, Wu and other styles of Taijiquan.

Interested students will have the option of moving on to more advanced long forms like Old Frame and New Frame long forms, the Cannon Fist variants for both frames, straight sword, sabre and wooden staff forms.

9:00 PM - Push Hands & Self Defense Skills � Building on the postural principles and principles of movement learned in qigong and form practice, students participate in push hands drills, learning how to read and anticipate their partners movement, defuse the energy of his or her attacks and apply the techniques embedded in the movements of the forms.

LOLA specializes in producing lesser-known operatic works. We have done the West Coast premieres of several major operatic works, and have had our last 2 productions at two of the fantastic and wonderful downtown Los Angeles historic theatres - the Los Angeles and The Palace. We hope to make The Palace our home in the near future.

When we initially formed our Board of Directors, the group was very small and we didn't require a lot from our Board Members. In fact, they were primarily there so that we could get our 501c3 certification. They liked the company, thought the idea was great, etc. But for the most part, the members did not have the time or energy to do many of the things that a Board of Directors is expected to do - in this case, their job is primarily to raise money!

Our immediate goal is to get out of debt from our last production (the first time we've ever ended up in the red instead of breaking even), put funds in the bank towards a new production / season (with the intent that most of that money would be returned to the account from ticket sales), and to provide small monthly salaries to the two individuals who run the organization. This isn't an unreasonable amount of money to find. I'm convinced of this.

LOLA has some incredibly bright, talented, resourceful people involved with it. We have some lofty goals, and we expect to continue to make a splash in Los Angeles with our unusual programming, and by keeping our ticket prices so low that anyone can afford to attend our shows.

Lyric Opera of Los Angeles is proposing a new form of sponsorship for our live operatic performances. We would like to experiment with some Sporting Event-style sponsorships. In other words, let's say you were willing to sponsor our orchestra: We would put your logo and whatever other advertising you like all around the walls of the orchestra pit. If you wish to sponsor something like Act I of the opera, We would have your logo flashed on the supertitles, perhaps even a short commercial just after the lights go down, or something along those lines. There are many options, and many opportunities for sponsorship.

This is a new idea for live theatre sponsorships I believe. Some may consider it to be "selling out". I say this is actually a logical development in a competitive market. If it's done with care and thought, I think there should be no problem. Of course, the larger sponsorships will get the larger advertising. But there are many smaller opportunities as well - sponsor the supertitles, we flash your logo at the beginning of the show. Sponsor the costumes....hmmm...we'd have to figure something out there. I can definitely see this having the potential of the same sorts of product placement you see in TV shows and movies. Let's say the show has people gathering around a large table for dinner and drinks...A wine bottle with the sponsoring wine company label is prominently displayed. There's a lot that can be done here.

Lyric Opera of Los Angeles (LOLA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit performing arts organization specializing in bringing lost operatic gems back to the stage. We make our home in the Downtown Palace Theatre on Broadway in downtown L.A. and are a part of the revitalization of the Broadway district. Our productions employ a full orchestra, costumes, sets and supertitles and utilize some of the finest young talent in the area. In our short history we have had singers perform with us who have gone on to principal roles with some of countries most respected opera houses, and have presented West Coast and US premieres of several wonderful, forgotten operatic masterpieces. LOLA has grown significantly from our very humble beginnings performing in church and school multi-purpose halls and now call downtown L.A. our home. Our last 2 productions had over 4000 attendees. We are poised to continue growing and expanding our repertoire list to occasionally include more standard operatic works as well.

Depression Support Group

We are a depression support group that meets at the

SHARE center in the West Los Angeles area.

The purpose of our support group is to help

people with depression. We meet 4 nights a week on

the west side. Meetings are open to anyone, are

generally an hour and a half, and the style generally

resembles AA meetings in which you can meet and talk

with others like yourself. These meetings are at the

S.H.A.R.E. meeting building. (SHARE=Self Help And

REcovery. SHARE is a non-profit organization,

supported by Los Angeles County and other

contributors, and provides meeting space for

non-profit groups like ours.)

We believe recovery involves the simple act of one depressed

person talking to another. This is not psychotherapy

and it is not an educational program. Meetings are not

run by therapists or specialists. They are made up of

people with similar problems. All meetings are free

(we appreciate a small donation at the end of the

meeting, but this is optional.) If you are not sure,

you are welcome to drop in and watch.
