Accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), University of the West, located in the City of Rosemead, Los Angeles County, California, has entered a new phase of expansion. The mission of the University is to provide a whole person education in a context informed by Buddhist wisdom and values and facilitate cultural understanding and appreciation between East and West. The University invites applications to join its growing efforts for Adjunct Professors in English in the Department of English to begin in Spring 2010. Candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, and professional academic service.
Qualifications:
• M.A. in Linguistics from an accredited college;
• Experience teaching in higher education;
• Experience addressing the educational needs of students, especially English language learners (from Chinese and other Asian-language backgrounds);
• Strong teaching and research specialization in two or more of the following areas: phonology, semantics and pragmatics, morphology and syntax, sociolinguistics, and historical linguistics.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
• Strong and demonstrated inter-cultural, global/international and interdisciplinary commitment, with an emphasis on Asian students;
• Experience teaching undergraduate-level courses in linguistics;
• Commitment to a proactive and team approach;
• Student-centeredness.
