HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MONROVIA! ![]() "MONROVIA'S YOUTH - OUR FUTURE HOPES & HEROES" The Monrovia Day Association is planning another exciting "Monrovia Day" Event for May 17th, 2008 As in previous years, the day will begin at 6:00 a.m. with a Pancake Breakfast hosted by the Knights of Columbus, which will be served at the Community Center located at 119 W. Palm Avenue. The annual parade will begin at 9:00 a.m., stepping off at Myrtle and Foothill, and will proceed south down Myrtle through Old Town. This year s theme is Monrovia s Youth Our Future Hope and Heroes. Leading the parade will be the Hometown Grand Marshalls, the Wildcats of Character, students from Monrovia High School who exemplify the six Pillars of Character promoted by the Josephson Institute: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. Announcement of the Parade s Celebrity Grand Marshall is expected soon. Immediately following the Parade will be the second annual Birthday Bingo competition with merchants in Old Town participating in a trivia contest about historical Monrovia. The Monrovia Day Association is an organization of community residents who volunteer their time and talents to put on Monrovia's birthday celebration each year on the third weekend in May, commemorating the founding of the city. The volunteers devote more than six months of each year planning the Monrovia Day events. This year s event happens to fall on the date of the original Monrovia Day, which was founded on May 17, 1886.
