Volunteer work: Volunteers' major duties include: • Teaching the pupils English, Math, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and IT; • Running extra curriculum activities such as Drama, Theater, Music, environmental activities;• Teaching Sports; The volunteers will be working from Monday to Saturday, Monday to Friday - 5 hours a day and Saturday - 3 hours.
Special requirements: English, Math, Physics, Chemistry, Physical Education/Sports and Biology teachers are needed. Knowledge and experience in teaching the aforementioned subjects is mandatory. Information Technology (IT) teachers are highly required, but the school has only one computer. This is not sufficient to teach the whole class, but the school is in the process of getting more computers.
We have an open policy and applicants with other ideas to share are also welcome to apply and will be considered.
Volunteers need to contribute/initiate ideas and by that would be promoting the growth of the School. This is an opportunity for the volunteers to work at a community/grassroot level in capacity building and training in self-sustainability.
Duration of the project: The schools in Kenya run from January to April, from May to August and from September to November. The time frame is open.

The Addictions Research Laboratory in the Department of Psychology at UCLA is seeking heavy drinkers age 21 or over who smoke 10 or more cigarettes per day and drink alcohol regularly for a study of two medications for smokers who drink alcohol regularly. The study involves 2 visits to our lab and the completion of a medical physical with our study physician. Total participation time is approximately 2 weeks. You will be asked to provide a DNA sample, complete questionnaires, and take the study medication for 9 days. This is NOT a treatment protocol for smoking or alcohol-related problems.

A research study is currently underway for adults who have suffered a mild or moderate head injury or a concussion from a car accident, a sports injury, a job or home accident, or from military duty.
To qualify for this study, participants must:

Experience Excessive Daytime Sleepiness (EDS)

Study-related care is provided at no charge to participants, which includes investigational study medication, study-related physical exams, and laboratory services.

LOS ANGELES (Nov. 2, 2009) – Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (LA BioMed) announced today that it is seeking volunteers to participate in a large national study of the effectiveness of testosterone as a treatment for anemia, cardiovascular disease, decreased vitality, impaired memory and sexual function, loss of muscle mass and other health conditions that affect older men.
“LA BioMed is pleased to be chosen as the only site in Los Angeles and one of 12 sites in the country for this national study of the effectiveness of testosterone in the treatment of health problems that affect older men with low testosterone levels,” said Ronald S. Swerdloff, MD, principal investigator for the study at LA BioMed. “We may be able to help older men with low testosterone levels remain healthy and independent longer if we find testosterone to be an effective treatment for health problems associated with low testosterone levels.”
Funded primarily by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and coordinated by the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, the Testosterone Trial will involve 800 men at 12 sites around the country. LA BioMed is seeking about 70 male volunteers to participate in the study at its site.
The Testosterone Trial will include five separate studies. Men, ages 65 and older, with low serum testosterone and at least one of the following conditions – anemia, decreased physical function, low vitality, impaired cognition or reduced sexual function – will be randomly assigned to participate in a treatment group or a control group.
Treatment groups will be given a testosterone gel that is applied to the torso, abdomen or upper arms, while men in the control groups will receive a placebo gel for application to the same areas of their bodies.
Serum testosterone will be measured monthly for the first three months, and quarterly thereafter, for up to one year. Participants will be tested on a wide range of measures to evaluate physical function, vitality, cognition, cardiovascular disease and sexual function. A non-invasive method of checking for coronary obstruction will be performed before and after treatment on those that qualify.
“This study is important because testosterone products have been marketed for many years as treatments for a variety of conditions,” said Evan C. Hadley, MD, director of NIA’s Division of Geriatrics and Clinical Gerontology. “We hope this trial will establish whether testosterone therapy results in clear benefits for older men.”

If you are looking for intercultural exchange possibility in winter, this is your chance. The volunteers will be working in support of the primary school in the town of Taskesti in the north west of Turkey. The volunteers will be painting and white washing indoor walls, doors & windows of the primary school. The school has 20 classrooms, teachers’ room, director’s room, corridors, labs, and ceiling to be painted.Volunteers must be aware that the weather will be cold. The work is inside and the working and living areas will be heated. Accommodation: Volunteers will stay in a prefab dormitory in a separate building, walking distance from the school. Rooms have bunk beds. Sleeping bags are necessary as the weather will be cold outside. Extra blankets will be available. Food will be supplied in the school.
Orientation: There is an orientation meeting in Istanbul on January 28th. All volunteers have to attend in order to get to know the other volunteers, to get information about the project, about Turkey and its culture, and to travel to the camp site altogether. The project starts the day after, following an overnight bus trip (5 hours). Location: Taskesti is a small town of Bolu province in the north west of Turkey, at an altitude of 600 m above sea level. Thus, the environment will be snowy. The next city is Bolu and the next town is Mudurnu which is famous for its traditional houses. Project language: English
Options United, a non-profit organization in the Pasadena area, is currently looking for a volunteer adoption facilitator. Options United provides vital outreach to young women and teens who are facing unplanned pregnancy through one-on-one mentoring support, increased adoption awareness, and partnership with existing resources.
Position Description
An Adoption Facilitator is an independent business entity that is in the business of matching prospective adoptive parents with birth parent(s) who have decided to place their child for adoption. The Options United Volunteer Adoption Facilitator will be on-call to provide adoption facilitation for any young woman or teen who seeks out assistance through the OU resource database and would like to choose an adoption plan.
Position Requirements:
• Have completed two years of college courses, with at least half of the units and hours focusing on social work or a related field.
• Have a minimum of three years experience employed by a licensed (issued by CDSS) public or private adoption agency, a registered Adoption Facilitator, or an adoption attorney who acts as an Adoption Facilitator.
OR
• Proof of five years of work experience providing direct adoption services for a licensed adoption agency.
• Three letters of support from any of the following:
-A licensed public or private adoption agency.
-A member of the Academy of California Adoption Lawyers; or,
-The CDSS.
• The position would require 3-5 hours per week, with some willingness for flexibility due to the on-call nature of the position.

We are a childrens literacy nonprofit organization that works with elementary school children by empowering them with strong reading skills. Tutoring requires no experience and can take as little as one hour per week.
We work in local public schools to provide one-on-one literacy tutoring for students who read below grade level. We currently partner with 3 schools in the Los Angeles area.

Bali Island is a densely populated island, with population more that 3 million people all together. The population is almost all Indonesian, 95% are of Balinese Hindu descent and could be describe as ethic Balinese. Bali is also a tiny, extremely fertile and dramatically mountainous island. It is only 140 km by 80 km. The tourism boom, which started in 1970s has brought many changes and has helped pay for improvement in roads, telecommunication, education and health. Though tourism has had some marked effects, Bali’s unique culture and custom has proved to be remarkably island. Bali disabled School was founded with the aim to cater for the needs of disabled children and youth in Bali and the surrounding areas. Moreover, this school is also aimed to encourage and motivate the disable children and youth to struggle for their future. We would like to host foreign volunteers because we believe that their interaction with the children, during education and vocational classes and other therapeutic activities will be of great benefit as our students have little or no chances to meet and live with people from other cultures. The intercultural dimension that their presence will generate will also be welcomed and valued by the local staffs. The support that the volunteers will give to our teaching staff, particularly those teaching English, will be invaluable.
The role of the volunteers will be assisting local teacher in classes like teaching basic conversation in English, helping teacher in giving training on physical activities of the disabled students like making simple handicrafts, playing, doing simple sport etc . Volunteers' influence on students is expected to create a sense of knowledge of other realities of the disabled kids and other cultures in a way that improves their own perception of themselves and what they can achieve. Also to open the mind of international volunteers that the disabled students also need attention to face their future. It will also give opportunity for the international volunteers about the treatment that should be done by the families of disabled children.

The slum reality is a big issue in the entire country. In this project volunteers will work along with different organizations involved in the development of the underprivileged. The aim is to spread awareness among the people and to give them more instruments to feel confident and free to decide for their future, and for the future of a new generation. The mission of this project is to: • Organize a multi-purpose project to involve the community and sensitize local people about the Health & Hygiene problems. • Educate the children to build a better and more conscious society. • Spread awareness on Women rights issues and social welfare. • Environmental issues. • Working with other NGOs in community service projects. The schedule and the focus of the project will be adapted to the season, the possibilities and the needs at the moment, with the aim to improve the achievements in a long-term view. The Children's Nature Institute will be holding an "A" Session Training on December 1st for individuals ranging from middle school and older who would like to become Lead Nature Guides and lead a nature walk of their own. Previous skills are not required because you will be taught everything you need to know during the "A" Session Training. Our program is also ideal for high school students who would like to earn community service units. We have many different types of programs available for students who would like to earn community service units who do not want to lead a nature walk as well.
This "A" Session Training will:

As a Clinical Care Extender, not only will you get to work alongside hospital staff to gain hands-on experience in helping to deliver care to patients, you will also receive a 3-day training course, have the opportunity to shadow physicians, rotate among different hospital departments, gain leadership opportunities and request for letters of recommendation upon completion of the program.
What time commitments does the program require?
The Clinical Care Extender Program requires a 240 hour program commitment. You will attend a mandatory 3-day training course (24 hours) before serving in the hospital. Clinical Care Extenders serve a minimum of one 4-hour shift each week for 60 weeks. In just over one year, a Clinical Care Extender completes 240 hours of volunteer service!
What shift times are available to volunteer in the hospital?
Shifts are scheduled on a first-come-first-serve basis (we will explain more about this procedure at the interview). In most departments, shifts are available 7 days a week from 7am to 11am, 11am to 3pm, 3pm to 7pm, 7pm to 11pm.
How long is a rotation?
Each rotation is 3 months long, which means that a Clinical Care Extender completes 4 rotations each year.

Once I am accepted, what do I need to do to begin volunteering?
You will need to submit proof of the following immunizations: Hepatitis B Series (completed or in progress), MMR (Two shots), TB Test (skin test given within the last 3 months, or chest x-ray from within the last year). You will also need to be CPR certified by the American Heart Association and make sure it is for “BLS for Healthcare Providers” —Please note that Barlow does not provide these vaccinations/CPR certifications for volunteers so you will need to have these done on your own. We will explain these in greater detail at your interview session.

Account Directors Needed
The Account Director is the most senior Service Grant volunteer and typically oversees two to three Service Grants concurrently. With the client, the Account Director ensures that the grantee client is ready to begin a project, negotiates project issues such as scope or timelines that the Project Manager cannot resolve, pre-sells deliverables, coaches the nonprofit's Executive Director on possible internal political challenges, and ensures that the nonprofit grantee is both upholding their responsibilities and ultimately pleased with the project. With the Taproot Foundation team, the Account Director makes final staffing decisions, reviews deliverables for quality and coaches the Project Managers.
A successful Account Director volunteer has managed team leaders, feels comfortable negotiating executive or board-level relationships, and has experience directly related to one of our grant areas (i.e. marketing, database/IT, or human resources.) Account Directors typically have held at least director, vice president, or partner level roles in their professional careers.

Copywriters Needed
The Copywriter role is responsible for creating the marketing copy for website, brochure, naming, key messages, or annual report projects. He or she will often work closely with the nonprofit’s marketing personnel to improve existing marketing copy. A successful copywriter has two or more years experience in copywriting at an agency or as an internal copywriter. In this role, you should have extensive experience working with visual designers to develop marketing collateral (brochures, websites, direct mail pieces), and be familiar with either the AP Style Guide or Chicago Manual of Style.

Project Managers Needed
The Project Manager volunteer is the primary point of contact with the nonprofit client during the course of the project and they are responsible for the overall success of the project. The Project Manager owns the schedule and coordinates all the communication for the team. A successful Project Manager volunteer has two or more years of experience leading strategic marketing and creative teams to deliver branding, print, and/or website projects.
Each Taproot Foundation project lasts 5 - 6 months with volunteers committing 3 - 5 hours of their time each week, often virtually. This opportunity is flexible enough to work around the schedule of your full-time job.
Time requirement: 1 or 2 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday) between 9-5 pm (flexible hours).
Specific requirements: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), Microsoft Access, Windows 2003, Vista, and XP Operating Systems. Network experience a plus.
