I am a private collector of coins and old currency. I am not a dealer. I see all of the ads on Craig's list for people wanting to buy your Gold and Silver Coins. Then there are those that do not even try to hide that they are buying and selling with the same ad....How does that work?

So I thought I would take a moment to help anyone who has a collection they want to sell with a few facts.

You can get the most money for your coins selling them on eBay. That is just a fact. No one is going to pay you more than what you can get on eBay no matter what they tell you. But eBay is not easy. You have to have a high rating to get the prices, and it is ALOT of work. There are also the fees for both eBay and PayPal. You earn the money. Nothing is free. Add to that the scammers and it sometimes becomes more work than it is worth.

You could try learning about coins n the hope you will discover some great rare Gem! Well there are two problems with that. One is that is takes years to learn about coins, in particular grading. The same coin in two different grades could make the difference of thousands of dollars. If you're a seller it is human nature to want to sell you coins for a grade higher than they are and if you're a buyer you want to buy them at a grade lower. So to win that fight you need to be well educated. I have been at this for years and am still figuring it out.

You could go to a dealer and ask them to buy your coins. They come in two flavors. Ones that want to buy only the good stuff, and others that will buy everything but not until they have degraded the accumulation your family worked on for years into something that they are doing YOU a favor for buying. But when you think about the cost of rent, insurance, wages and the hundred and one other things they have to pay to keep the doors open, they just can't do that and pay you what you would realize on eBay less your fees. The math just does not work.

Another way to sell your coins is to find someone who will take the time to talk to you about what you have. A person who will help you through the process with straight answers. Will offer you a fair price for your entire collection without Cherry-picking away the better stuff. Someone who will pay you more than dealers for collectable coins, and not just compete for your Gold and Silver.

And, I'll always keep at least two months worth of payments in the account, so you'll have time to get the car back from me before the loan becomes delinquent, in the event that I don't replenish the account.

You will keep a key to the car, so that if I am ever late on it, you can come to my home and take it from me, if necessary (it won't be, obviously, but I want you to feel secure).
We will have a very detailed contract requiring me to maintain the car, registration, insurance, etc.
