New Roads School, a K-12 independent school in Santa Monica, Malibu and Los Angeles has a full time Humanities teaching position in our Malibu Middle School Campus starting in January 2010.
Three to 5 years of experience teaching middle school aged children is preferable. Ability to foster close parent/teacher and student/teacher relationships. Experience with integrated and thematic curricula. Well versed and practiced in current educational theory and research. Creative, fun-loving, and hard working team players. Willingness to participate in extra and co-curricular activities. Technologically savvy, experience with technology in the classroom. Experience with transitioning students from elementary to middle school, and/or from middle school to high school. Team teaching experience. Experience with inquiry based learning, and working with students who demonstrate a variety of different learning styles. Attention to the individual needs of students. Strong writer, speaker, communicator. A passion for teaching children between the ages of 11 and 14; teachers who identify themselves as "middle school teachers." "Renaissance people" who bring their interests to the classroom. Commitment to diversity, ecological sanity, and the habits of mind that promote lifelong learning.
