JOIN STUDENTS FROM LOCAL COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES AND LEARN WHAT AIR FORCE ROTC IS ALL ABOUT!

MEET THE CADETS AND THE STAFF OF THE TOP AFROTC UNIT IN THE GREATER LOS ANGELES AREA. BRING YOUR PARENTS AND FRIENDS -- ASK QUESTIONS AND FIND OUT WHAT AIR FORCE ROTC CAN OFFER YOU.

What is Air Force ROTC?

The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) is an educational program designed to give men and women the opportunity to become Air Force officers while completing a college degree. The program is designed to prepare you to assume positions of increasing responsibility and importance in the modern Air Force. Air Force ROTC offers three routes to an Air Force commission at over 700 institutions throughout the United States and Puerto Rico -- the Air Force ROTC Four-Year and Three-Year Programs.

Do you have to be a student at LMU to be apart of Detachment 040?
No, Detachment 040 (LMU) has cadets attending 50+ schools at anytime in the southern California area, to include (but not limited to) Biola, CSUDH, CSUF, CSULB, CSULA, Pepperdine, UCI, and several junior colleges. For a complete list of Det 040 cross-town schools, contact the detachment at (310) 338-2770 or check out our website at www.lmu.edu/afrotc.

Academic Classes
Academic classes and parking for cross-town students are free at Loyola Marymount University! The General Military Course (GMC) is taken during your freshman and sophomore years. This program allows you to “try out” Air Force ROTC for up to two years without incurring any obligation. As a freshman and sophomore, you will learn about the Air Force and the historical development of airpower. The last half of the program, is called the Professional Officer Course (POC). These junior and senior level courses cover leadership skills and national defense policy.

Leadership Laboratory
As an Air Force ROTC cadet, you’ll spend two hours each week putting into practice the leadership skills and management theory acquired in class. Leadership Laboratory is a cadet-centered program taken each year that will improve your ability to perform as an Air Force officer.

Field Training
Field Training offers you a firsthand look at the Air Force environment and is a required step before entering the POC. You will usually attend Field Training during the summer of your sophomore and junior year of college at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. During this time, you will receive career orientation, survival training, weapons familiarization, physical training, and familiarization with the organization and function of an Air Force Base.

What about scholarships?
College Students -- Air Force ROTC offers 1 to 3.5-year scholarships to college students in all majors. Scholarships are available on a competitive basis. To apply, contact the Air Force ROTC detachment. Selections are based on scores achieved on the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT), AFROTC Physical Fitness Test, cumulative grade-point average, and a commander’s rating.
