BAZERK Bio

Los Angeles-based rock band Bazerk brilliantly blends metal, funk, and rap together with lyrical melodies and a hard-hitting rhythm section. Fierce frontman Zookeynee (aka Zoo), originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, came to LA in 1999 specifically to form Bazerk. Though keeping a solid line-up proved to be challenging, Zoo’s vision remained the glue that held together the sound and the message. Full-throttle seven-string guitar licks, heavy bottom-end bass, hypnotic drum beats, and slick cutting and scratching (by Pigface alumnus DJ Lumis) provide a solid foundation for Zoo’s observations of the world from an urban point of view.

Bazerk has performed all over California and the Pacific Northwest at world-famous venues like The Viper Room, The Highlands, The Gig, The Joint, The Rhythm Lounge and many more. The band has played at fashion shows, house parties, live radio shows, and multiple music festivals (including the Hollywood Music Festival, the El Sereno Street Fest, and the LA4Real Music Festival which donated $$ to the Make-a-Wish Foundation). They’ve shared the stage with Fishbone, Bad Brains, One Side Zero, De La Soul, 1AD7, Bloodsugar, Year of the Dragon, Herbal Influence, and more. After winning a Battle of the Bands judged by George Clinton (Mr. Funkadelic himself!), Bazerk did some recording in the studio with Clinton and they performed together at a Pepsi-sponsored show. Another career highlight was jamming at Prince’s birthday bash in LA, after which The Purple One came backstage to congratulate the band and offer encouragement.

Bazerk’s raw, hardcore sound has been compared to Living Colour, Rage Against the Machine, Hed Pe, Public Enemy, 311, Cypress Hill, and other in-your-face acts. Their critically acclaimed album “I Heard Y’all Like Violence, The Rage Album” is available in Target stores nationwide and on iTunes, Amazon, eBay, and SDSRecords.com.

Zoo’s funky live persona is that of a man possessed and on a mission. So watch and listen… Bazerk is on the move!
