CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles (“GSGLA”) is committed to excellence in serving 45,000 girls through pacesetting, girl-led program activities, with 22,000 proactive volunteers, and 140 innovative staff across a 4,000 sq mile, tri-county area. As the largest girl-serving organization in the nation, Girl Scouts strives to build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.

With an annual operating budget of $13M, an investment portfolio of $8M, and 25 owned or leased properties, GSGLA is seeking a seasoned and strategic financial leader to serve as the council’s first Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMTED TO:
• Directs and manages administrative and operational functions of Finance, Accounting, Product and Retail Sales, and Purchasing for GSGLA.
• Oversees and has direct responsibility for the operating and capital budgets, and investment portfolio.
• Oversees the financial management and ensures the accuracy and integrity of the financial systems and reporting.
• Oversees the risk management programs in partnership with GSGLA’s Chief Administrative Officer.
• As a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) works closely with the GSGLA Board of Directors, reporting directly to the CEO.
• Serves as staff liaison to the Finance, and Audit Committees of the Board of Directors of GSGLA. Attend all Board meetings and other committee meetings as appropriate.
• Works with the CEO, SLT and the Board to develop a Strategic Business Plan for the organization, including financial modeling and goals.
• In conjunction with council’s Director of Finance, directs and manages all accounting and financial matters through management of the Finance Department; establishes and maintains internal controls to monitor and safeguard assets.
• Oversees the preparation for annual audits and other audit activities; coordinates issuance of annual financial statements.
• Guides the development and administration of the budget and forecast, including supervising the preparation of the budget and forecast analyses, writing support narratives and monitoring performance against budget and forecasts.
• Oversees all aspects of revenue generation and operation for Spring and Fall Product Program sales ($9.3M net), and for online and seven retail shops ($400K net)
• In conjunction of the council’s Director of Retail and Product Sales, establishes sales objectives, develops and implements annual marketing plans to achieve these objectives by promoting and stimulating sales of GS merchandise at the online and regional service center locations. Assures accurate monitoring and evaluation of inventory and stock levels.
• As a member of the SLT, builds relationships with vendors, business contacts, and the community to philanthropically support GSGLA.

CANDIDATES MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Accounting or related field. CPA or MBA required.
• A track record of working with external boards and committees and staffing volunteers is extremely important.
• Excellent leadership, supervisory, coaching, planning and organizational skills.
• Effective communication, presentation, negotiation and problem-solving skills; strong written and oral skills; flexibility; sense of humor.
• Team-building skills with a collaborative management style.
• A self-starter. Someone with the ability to work independently to drive results.
• Ability to forge and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of representatives of public and private organizations, Board members, volunteers, vendors, staff and the general public.
• Must possess “big picture” perspective, while being able to work side by side others as a “player-coach”.
