Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Youth Advocate is responsible:
• Establish and build effective working relationships with runaway and homeless youth located throughout Santa Monica and Venice area.
• Provide initial contact, assessment, information/education and referral services to runaway and homeless youth.
• Provide crisis intervention.
• Provide social services advocacy and follow-up case management services.
• Attend Street Outreach Network (SON) meetings as scheduled for purpose of coordinating services to outreach clientele.
• Education clientele and other members of community about OPCC services as well as other community/LA County services.
• Respond to calls from community members regarding runaway and homeless youth who may need advocacy and services.
Qualifications:
• High school/GED degree.
• Minimum of two (2) years experience in youth-related field, or equivalent life experience
• Knowledge of social service agencies on Westside and throughout LA County, especially those providing services to runaway and homeless youth.
• Excellent human relations skills; commitment to improving the community through empowerment and dignity.
• Skilled in non-violent crisis intervention.
• Knowledge of issues faced by population served.
• Ability to self-motivate, and appropriately organize and motivate others.
• Valid CA Drivers license, car and auto insurance.
• Computer literate; able to use computerized database system for information management.
• Ability to work as a team member.
