WHAT DOES THISNEXT.COM BUILD?
ThisNext is builds a publishing platform that takes product-themed user generated content and organizes/publishes it for two audiences. The audiences are:
1. Consumers: A consumer facing social shopping site (www.thisnext.com)
2. Googlebot: A predictive, continuously optimized content management system that drives organic search and maximizes yield.
JOB DESCRIPTION: SYSTEMS / NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR
Technology Requirements
In order to take over the administration of the existing system infrastructure, the successful candidate will be:
• Experienced in managing a high availability, high scalability environment where uptime and speed are continually monitored and improved
• Well-versed in installing, configuring, and maintaining load balancers (LVS) and redundant architecture
• Experienced in setting up, managing, and troubleshooting MySQL database replication (master/slave) using statement based replication and binlog based replication
• Experienced with systems monitoring software such as munin or nagios
• Capable of supporting a large existing Perl / Mason / MySQL codebase on Linux / Apache
• Able to evaluate existing technology and continually improve existing infrastructure as we grow
• Comfortable monitoring and administering a (non-managed) co-location facility
• Well-versed in scaling web properties, with strong HTTP scalability knowledge
• Experienced managing an office environment consisting of multiple platforms (Linux, MacOS, Windows)
In order to move forward, the successful candidate will be:
• Innovative, with proven experience in solving hard problems with unclear solutions
• Capable of participating in implementation and interested in doing so
• Comfortable building and maintaining a data warehouse. Knowledge of business intelligence techniques (ETL, star schema, etc.) is ideal.
Likely positive signs:
• Candidate has strong hands-on experience managing large-scale multi-tiered architecture consisting of load balancers, web servers, database servers, etc.
• Candidate has managed multiple large scale web sites (millions of visitors per month)
Management requirements
The successful candidate:
• Will be comfortable handling a balance of long term and very short term initiatives simultaneously
• Will be comfortable in a very results driven environment with competing priorities
• Will have a strong sense of ownership of the existing systems and architecture
• Will have extensive start-up experience and a scrappy disposition
