A charming antique framed lithographic print, Spring Song (Frulinglied in German), after the painting by Austrian artist Simon Glucklich (1863-1943). The print is signed in the bottom left-hand corner: “Samuel Schiff Co. N.Y.” Other versions are marked Reinthal & Newman, in New York around the mid 1920’s; “1925 Sorin Chicago”; for the John Drescher Company, New York; and c. 1936 Columbian Colortype Co. This example is one of the earliest versions.
The subject of the painting is the artist's daughter, who was blind, sitting listening to the song of a robin perched in a birch tree. Earlier versions have her eyes closed, while in later versions they are open. The colors are soft and muted in tones of green, brown, and beige. The featured color is the red breast of the robin.
The print is surrounded by a nicely carved period frame in good condition. Framed circa 18 x 15 ins.
