Produced in the 1940s, the Cope Collection Line introduced new colors, decorations and shapes. The collection was named for Leslie and Velma Cope. For many years, Leslie and his father Sydney designed pottery for the Nelson McCoy Pottery Company. Many of the pieces were created as originals but later pottery molds were constructed so various pieces could be made on the production line.
Suitable for all seasonal displays, this stylized, hand-decorated basket with leaf and berries motif is fired in green, brown and burgundy, with incised and embossed layers providing depth and visual appeal.
Shape number 509, it stands 8 1/2" tall, and flares up and outward from the base to a width of 7". The bottom measures 4 1/2" x 3 1/4". It is marked with the familiar McCoy USA logo on the underside. This piece is in excellent condition with a very crisp mold and would make for a great decoration or addition to your art pottery collection.
