This lovely ships lantern has a fresnel lens. It was painted white and still has a little bit of paint on the underside. The lens has a crack in it, at the back, as seen in the photos, but is still smooth to the touch. The metal is probably copper, but I'm not sure. I didn't want to disturb much of the patina, as seem in the last photo. There is a small crack in the metal on top which is also visible in the photos. The projection is 11 1/2". The diameter varies, but is 5 1/2" at the widest. The back plate is 10" high.
