This vintage wrought iron frame, glass top reading table was originally paired and matched with a Maurizio Tempestini for Salterini hoop chair. If not a Maurizio Tempestini it is definitely in the style of classic mid-century Italian design and manufacture. We do know for sure that it has been in the family since circa 1955 and it definitely exhibits that mid-century modern style. Would also make a perfect side table.
The glass top looks smoked in some of these images. It is NOT. It is clear.
One end of the top iron frame has a half loop that may have originally held a reading lamp. If so, the lamp is long gone and no one can even remember what it may have looked like. It also may have been intended as a simple guide for a table lamp's wire.
The wire shelf was always used for its original intent, holding books and magazines.
Notes regarding condition:
The wrought iron frame does show some very light surface rust and should make for an easy refinish if so desired.
The gold/brass electroplated wire shelf has more significant corrosion but should be okay to refinish.
The all original glass top does have very small chips along some of the edges but none of them feel sharp or look to further split (see detail images). This glass has proven incredibly durable over the years, having survived generations of children, a long stint on 3-season porch, stacks of boxes while in storage and (no guarantees!) with reasonably proper care will probably outlast all of us!
