HELP!! I already paid a mechanic $170 to install an upper and lower control arm. The control arm that I handed him had a brand new ball joint installed in it. So obviously as a suspension mechanic, (which mechanic claimed to be?)...the first thing you would do would be to go ahead and BE SURE the new ball joint has grease and then put grease in the rubber boot to prepare it to be put on properly !!!!
So he put in the upper and lower control arm ------ but he LEFT OFF the rubber boot. People... There's no way you can not notice a rubber boot missing because there's a huge gap right there and you see the metal stud looking all naked with nothing around it - there is simply no way to not notice that. See pic. So that night I inspected under the the car even though I had already done damage by driving on the new ball joint with no grease in it !!!!!!!
Furthermore I even gave him the tool that is used to knock down the rubber boot securely which comes with the ball joint. And now he wants to tell me that I was bothering him which is why he forgot to put on the rubber boot????? Sure. And you didn't see the elephant in the room because you were smoking huh? And of course, accidentally or conveniently forgot to grease the brand new ball joint - you double check again and put the grease gun on there and pull the trigger until grease comes out. Yes you can get ball joints that are sealed but if you're a mechanic and you SEE grease fitting (and he put the grease fittings on by screwing them in the little hole) and it's a new ball joint then.... you go ahead and put in some Grease. Then you know for a fact that if you don't put the rubber boot in packed with grease as well... that it's going to starve the ball joint of Grease over time and you're going to have catastrophic failure including losing your tire while you're on the highway or the suspension simply drops down and hits the pavement while you're moving and rips out the whole suspension and flips the van?
His EXCUSE is that I was a distraction AND NOW that the entire mechanic shop the entire mechanic shop had no grease guns anyway AND that it was my responsibility to grease that ball joint? However... I just called German autosports and pretended to be a German with a German karmann Ghia sports car and ask the owner if they had plenty of grease guns to grease my German sports car.... he said yes !!!! But the mechanic that did the job claims the shop didn't have ANY grease guns AND said that the mechanic shop was not a mechanic shop? Duh .
So in other words if you take your car to jiffy lube so they can change your oil and they leave off the oil filter and all the oil drains out and locks up your motor ...then jiffy lube tells you that it's your job to put on the oil filter????? Then they say well if you're so smart why aren't you working at jiffy lube or why didn't you change the oil yourself. Uh huh ..
So I paid him all the money that I had $170 and I put in the ball joint using a ball joint press myself and you don't put grease in it as soon as you put it in because it's going to be inside of your vehicle and it's going to be grease all over your car. He even jacked up the car again so he could put on the little grease fitting that he left off.... But then didn't put any grease in it so we got two issues here one.... He didn't bother putting grease in it claiming falsely that the shop (German Auto sports) didn't have grease guns and then secondly did not install the rubber boot which is one of the most vital elements of the whole job? But he would tell you or anybody else that I was a distraction to him... While he was going to let me drive to New Mexico with no grease and no rubber boot. Sure.
Now...I am completely out of money and I am in the middle of a federal suit against the government and I have court next week and doctor's appointments and I'm disabled and I have no more money... cuz I paid mechanic $170 when all the other mechanics wanted $150. But I can guarantee you this ....any other mechanic would have made damn sure that that rubber boot is on and that would have made damn sure that there's Grease in that new ball joint and that the rubber boot is packed with grease. Hello !!!!
Can somebody out there help out because I am literally stranded and I acted in good faith and I treated the mechanic like a king while he was doing the mechanic work.... and he borrowed somebody else's shop who was kind enough to let him use their shop and then I tried to talk to him during the mechanic work and then I swept up the little pieces of metal on the floor and dried grease so he didn't get it all over him. but now he would convince you or anybody else that I was in his way and I was distracting him ....oh and if that was the case why didn't he just say something and why did he lie about not having grease guns the next day after I discovered no grease and no rubber boot installed. So naturally he didn't want me climbing inside the van when the van was on jack stands but I did open the back door to try and get some half inch ratchets for him which is different than a 250-lb man climbing on the inside ....but he would tell anybody that I was climbing on the inside when in fact I did NOT !!!! "Me thinks he doth protest too much?".
Go ahead and Google it when you drive on a brand new ball joint with no grease it causes immediate damage !!! The ball joint needs to be replaced and I do not absolutely do not trust this guy at this point... to get anywhere near my van because I look at this as intentional and there's no way a suspension mechanic can leave off a rubber boot while at the same time refusing to grease the ball joint and then he blames me? Hello?
If somebody can do this job I will be glad to pay you in 2 weeks but I am out of money and I'm not letting him work on or get near my van at this point because it really really has the trappings of being intentional and if it's not intentional... It is the most negligent and unprofessional thing that any mechanic ....particularly suspension mechanic could possibly do. LAPD claims it's a civil matter and mechanic tells me he would fix it but I "couldn't be anywhere near the shop"... in other words he wants me to leave my van unattended in his possession while he repairs it after what appears to be malicious abuse of power in not putting on the rubber boot and not greasing the new ball joint. yeah right.
Can somebody please help out here. So I guess I'll have to have another new ball joint pressed in because driving with no grease causes immediate damage. But the lower and upper control arm are already put in and the upper control arm is brand new. HELP!!!!! Please. You will be paid soon I promise.
