🎻 “The Funhouse Porcupines are seeking an upright bassist with groove, guts, and a touch of vaudeville.” 🎶
Greetings! I’m looking for a stand-up (upright) bass player to join my group, The Funhouse Porcupines — not as a hired gun, but as a real band member and creative contributor.
We play an offbeat mix of vintage jazz, swing, originals, and theatrical novelties — think a speakeasy/cabaret act that got lost in a carnival. Our sound is influenced by Dan Hicks, Shinyribs, Tom Waits, and Bare Naked Ladies — funny, heartfelt, groove-driven, and always full of personality and improvisation.
We’re after someone who:
• Plays upright bass with solid time and feel
• Loves quirky, expressive music
• Brings ideas to the table and wants to build something together
• Appreciates humor, musicianship, and good hang energy
• Has a flair for theatricality
• Dresses the part (steampunk meets aloha meets western swing — or something uniquely you)
• Background vocals and arco (the bow) skills = A+++
We’re a show, not a bar pickup band — or worse, “pass the butter” background music.
If that sounds like your scene, message me! Let’s talk, meet and greet, and see if it clicks (and swings).
