"Joya" is masters thesis animated film from Calarts Animation student Julián Vargas.
The film is a noir horror inspired by films like "Kiss Me Deadly" (1955), "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" (1989) and John Waters films.
The character is Belika a charming, manipulative and lethal woman with a malicious plan to make a fortune by scamming a vulnerable man. She is working class and wants to change her fortunes at any costs. The character is inspired by Kathleen Turner in "Serial Mom", Diane Ladd in "Wild at Heart" and Medusa from "The Rescuers".
