1884 Large Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk -The Rose Trunk Co.- Atchison, Kansas

This particular Steamer Trunk is an antique flat top from 1884 that's extremely unique and associated with a special piece of history. The Trunk is in fairly good condition with tooled leather around the exterior of the trunk that is mostly intact. The exception is there is no lock key and the leather handles are worn and missing. The Trunk Tray however is still with the trunk. There is also a label in the trunk that reads:

Established 1884
The ROSE TRUNK COMPANY
MANUFACTURERS AND JOBBERS OF
TRUNKS, TRAVELING BAGSS, SUIT CASES
SPECIALTIES IN LEATHER, FIBRE, AND CANVAS GOODS
THEATRICAL AND COMMERCIAL TRUNKS
SAMPLE CASES, DRY GOODS STOCK BOXES,ETC.
ENQUIRIES SOLICITED
ATCHISON, KANSAS

Atchison, Kansas, which sits directly on the border of Missouri, was founded in 1854 and named for Missouri Senator David Rice Atchison. During the Civil War, there were 3 Militia Companies in Atchison whose members enlisted in the Kansas Regiments. A little known fact is that William Quantrill, a famous Confederate Guerilla leader during the Civil War, would cross from Missouri to Atchison and raid the town for supplies. It is also the birthplace of the famous aviator, Amelia Earhart. Mr. Frank Rose moved from Wichita, Kansas to Atchison, Kansas in 1882 and formed the Rose Trunk Company in 1884.

The Atchison and Topeka Railroad was founded in 1859 with Atchison as its Eastern Terminus, later to become the Atchison,Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad (AT&SF) in 1863. A hit song was recorded in the 1950's titled "The Atchison,Topeka, and Santa Fe." This Trunk truly represents several important historical milestones. This trunk would be a great addition for the Western History Collector or an Museum specializing in Western Collections.

The Trunk measures 32"(L), 18 3/4"(W). 21 1/2" (D) is located in Long Beach, CA and will need to be a local pick-up only.
