Quality Supervisor
Department: Quality
Reports To: Quality Manager / Director of Quality
Supervises: Quality Inspectors and Lead Inspectors
Position Summary
The Quality Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Quality Department in a fast-paced sheet metal fabrication and machine shop environment. This role ensures that products meet customer specifications, engineering requirements, and company quality standards while supporting production, mentoring inspectors, and driving continuous improvement. The Quality Supervisor serves as the primary point of contact for quality issues during the shift and assists the Quality Manager with implementing quality systems and process improvements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of Quality Inspectors and Lead Inspectors.
Assign inspection priorities based on production schedules and customer requirements.
Verify first article inspections (FAIs), in-process inspections, and final inspections are completed accurately and on time.
Review inspection documentation for completeness and accuracy.
Ensure compliance with customer drawings, specifications, and workmanship standards.
Investigate quality issues and coordinate corrective actions with Production, Engineering, and Management.
Assist with root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Train, coach, and mentor inspectors on inspection techniques, blueprint reading, GD&T, and company procedures.
Ensure calibrated inspection equipment is properly maintained and used correctly.
Monitor non-conforming material and oversee segregation, documentation, and disposition.
Participate in customer audits, supplier quality issues, and internal quality audits.
Track departmental performance metrics including scrap, rework, customer returns, and on-time inspections.
Support ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality system requirements (if applicable).
Assist the Quality Manager with developing inspection procedures and work instructions.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and teamwork.

Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of quality inspection experience in a sheet metal fabrication and precision machining environment.
Minimum 2 years in a Lead Inspector or supervisory role preferred.
Strong working knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and machine shop processes including:
Machining
Laser cutting
Turret punching
Forming/Bending
Welding
Hardware installation
Assembly
Finishing processes
Proficient in blueprint reading and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
Experience performing First Article Inspections (AS9102 experience preferred).
Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality systems.
Strong understanding of quality tools including:
Root Cause Analysis
5 Why
Fishbone Diagram
Corrective Action Reports (CARs)
Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems.
Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Lift up to 40 pounds occasionally.
Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand motions.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery and moderate noise.
Preferred Qualifications
ASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT) or Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) preferred.
Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience is a plus.
Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience with aerospace, medical, defense, or other high-tolerance manufacturing industries is highly desirable.
