Up for auction on ebay Thursday the 14th. Southern Pacific Railroad Airstream. In the late 50s early 60s south pacific railroad and western pacific railroad commisioned airstream with the task of creating living quarters for their engineers. Airstreams that could be loaded on freight cars or pulled behind train carts. what airstream did was design a completly custom frames axles and fused two airstream halves together. These were the prototypes for what became mobile industrial which built cheaper more cost effective airstreams on an industrial scale a more square airstream with square fiber glass end caps. Only a small number of the prototypes were made and still made like all other styles of airstream with rounded aluminum panels. Airstream made these in 33ft 35ft 40ft 50ft. Out of only a few made even fewer survived most were wrecked or scrapped. And of the few that exist most are in museums. This 33ft airstream is the only one available for sale confirmed from logos and archives and airstreams archivist samantha martin. This is a genuine south pacific railroad airstream. This trailer will need to be restored either to original condition or updated. In process of deoxidizing shell and thoroughly cleaning interior a clean blank canvas to work from has new tires and was recently towed 100 miles.
