Overview: Up for sale is an incredible antique oil painting depicting a nocturnal scene of moonlit ships and a distant view of the Portland Head Light lighthouse. An absolutely stunning painting. Painting is unsigned and undated, but there is some writing in pencil on the back of the stretcher bars, which appears to read, "Looking From ... Portland ..." I would estimate it to date to the 1910's or 1920's, based on style and wear. I'll be listing a few other paintings that I acquired together with this one, done by the same artist (one of which shows a daytime scene of the Portland Head Light). Please check my other listings. Framed in a lovely detailed carved wood frame, though it is slightly loose in the frame.
Condition: Painting is in fair condition, with some noticeable slits/repairs in the canvas, and minor rumpling, cracquelure. Frame is in very good condition.
Measurements: Painting measures approximately 10 inches wide x 5.25 inches high. Frame measures approximately 11.25 inches wide x 6.25 inches high.
