This antique Victorian writing slope dates to the 1870s and was designed for use on the go by a traveler, officer, or student in the 19th century. Constructed from richly grained wood (probably mahogany) this compact lap desk features original brass plates and corners, original black leather interior, original working key, two period correct ink bottles, removable dished pen tray, and compartments for stationery.
Overall condition is very good, with some minor cracks and scratches consistent with age and use which do not detract from the beauty of this item.
Amazing piece of history! Imagine this box traveling by coach through the English countryside and used as a writing desk or document signing platform by a local barrister or notary.
Has been in our family for over 50 years. Time for a new home!
