Beautiful leatherbound, 2 volume set in slipcase. We bought two originally, this is an extra copy, and an extremely rare exact facsimile reproduction of Samuel Johnson's Dictionary.
The actual title is;
"Dictionary of the English Language: In Which The Words are Deduced From Their Originals, and Illustrated in Their Different Significations by Examples From The Best Writers."
This was the first true dictionary of the English language. Originally published in 1755, by Longman (UK). This facsimile Limited Edition was also published by Longman (using an original 1755 first edition, still in the company archive VAULT) to commemorate the cessation of Longman's publishing operations in 1990, and also includes two pamphlets containing facsimile monographs of other Johnson essays pertaining to the grammar therein. These are very rare. The leather, pages, monographs, and slip case are in immaculate, untouched condition. Very few of these limited editions arrived in the US. This set is also in the original shipping carton.
This is NOT the widely published Folio Society Edition.
