The Commodores formed in 1968 at the Tuskegee Institute and signed with Motown
Records in 1972.
The group was most successful in the late 1970s and early 1980s, when Lionel Richie
was the co-lead singer.
William King, a founding member, played trumpet, guitar, synthesizer, flute, and
congas/percussion and was the group's choreographer.
