The exterior of this 190SL is stunningly beautiful with its Papyrus White paint, excellent chrome and trim, optional white hard top, black convertible soft top with red leather soft top boot, white with chrome trim wheels, and new Michelin XH4 All Season tires.

The 2-seat leather interior is nothing less than spectacular!!! It includes gorgeous all new red leather upholstery, door panels, dash pad and sun visors as well as new proper square weave carpeting and Becker radio! Generous size seats allow for all-day comfort, and there is plenty of legroom and luggage space. All controls are easy to reach, and the dash is very well laid out with easy-to-read instruments.

The engine bay is beautifully restored, and contains its 1,897cc overhead-camshaft four-cylinder engine that breathes through twin Solex downdraft carburetors and offers 105 (120 bhp SAE / 105 BHP DIN) horsepower at 5,700 RPM. It has two fewer cylinders than the 300SL's straight-six, upon which it was based, and keeps the 85 mm bore but uses a reduced stroke size of 83.6 mm.

Control of the 4-speed all-synchromesh transmission is floor mounted, and braking is via Alfin drums with a vacuum booster. The suspension is independent all around with A-arms and coil springs in front and a low-pivot swing axle with coil springs at the rear. Zero-to-sixty mph was accomplished in 14.5 seconds, and top speed was achieved at 106 mi/hr.

The trunk is beautifully restored and contains a matching wheel and new Michelin XH4 All Season tire. Also included are massive amounts of restoration receipts, service records, tools, car cover, and owner’s manual.

The Mercedes 190SL hit the sweet spot with a comfortable, fun, practical, sporty roadster with a surplus of style. After its unveiling at the New York Auto Show in 1954, Robert Nitske of Speed Age declared it “… a car suited for all purposes, the perfect synthesis of touring and sporting characteristics.” That sentiment remains true for today’s enthusiasts, who admire the 190SL for its versatility, vault-like build quality, unmistakable mid-century style, robust drivetrain and exceptionally well-engineered chassis. This well restored 190SL is sure to satisfy even the most discriminating enthusiast looking for an excellent example to drive on tours and events, while also being sharp enough for shows and club gatherings.

The 190SLs were improved from year to year. This 1962 is the second to last year produced, so it benefited from those improvements!! This spectacular show-ready 1962 190SL is sure to please even the most discriminating enthusiast, give you years of driving pleasure and immense pride of ownership!

ADDITIONAL 190SL INFORMATION
The race-bred 300SL sports car was joined in January of 1955 by a more affordable, but no less refined model known as the 190SL (W121). It was an excellent alternative to the higher-priced Mercedes-Benz 300SL.

Announced in 1954, it shared its wheelbase size with its larger sibling, with a unit-body of steel construction with a subframe that supported the engine and front suspension. Weight was minimized via the use of aluminum for the doors, hood, trunk, dash, and various other parts.

It had 100 mph-plus performance with a sensible fuel economy rating of around 25 to 30 miles per gallon. Its suspension setup allowed for a more comfortable ride than any contemporary British sports car, and unlike the 180 saloon on which its mechanical components were based, it had a floor-mounted gearchange. Body styles included a two-seater convertible or coupe, with the soft-top convertible priced at approximately $4,000. A removable hardtop was optional for an additional $295. In 1959, the hardtop's rear window was enlarged.

It is believed that only 772 1962 examples were sent to the United States, with production lasting from 1955 to 1963. Both the 300 SL and the 190 SL were replaced in 1963 by the 230SL.
