1960s Solid Walnut Two Drawer Nightstands with Sculpted Pulls - $2,400

We opted to refinish without stain in order to highlight the fabulous grain patterns that traverse the top surface and cascade down the sides. The recessed drawer handles are sculpted from the drawer face – meaning no metal pulls that will tarnish or break over time. Solid walnut construction means this pair can be refinished in another 60 years to look as perfect as it does today.
This pair was purchased by the original owners in the 1960s and remained in the same house since. One member of the couple was among the first American employees of Japanese Airlines, and they traveled extensively through Asia. While we have seen this piece attributed to American manufacturers, we believe the couple’s background along with a well-hidden maker’s mark stamped beneath one of the lower drawers indicates a Taiwanese maker, marking the early days of trade between the US and Taiwan. The dark stained legs and metal accent panels contribute a chinoiserie vibe to a perfect mid century modern piece.
