Beautiful and rare Model 162 dining table by Borge Mogensen, made in Denmark by Soborg Møbelfabrik c. 1950s.
Perhaps in response to Hans Wegner's iconic Sabre Leg dining table, Mogensen's 162 employs a novel leg assembly and an innovative support system for the two included leaves. The chrome-plated steel braces, which stow underneath the main surface when not in use, unfold and clip into the leaves to support the table in its expanded form. With the leaves deployed 10 guests can gather around the table comfortably.
The teak surface sits atop a pair of tapered A-frame legs, crafted from solid oak. This combination of materials makes for a beautiful color contrast and was fairly commonplace in the 1950s and 1960s works of Hans Wegner, Torben Strandgaard, and Mogensen himself.
Expertly refinished with only slight traces of its 70-year history visible on close inspection. One leaf is slightly darker in the center due to the placement of a table runner for many decades.
