Early S35 cantilevered lounge chair, originally designed by Marcel Breuer in 1929. This particular chair was acquired from the collection of a Southern California antiques dealer.
The frame is made from a single line of bent tubular steel. This gives the S35 a wonderful bounce, with the seat and armrests flexing independently of each other. Quite comfortable despite its somewhat spartan appearance.
The S35 is currently produced by Thonet and remains relevant after nearly 100 years since its debut.
The black PVC weave remains fully intact and the beechwood arms were recently refinished. The frame has accumulated plenty of rust (the chair sat outdoors, exposed to the elements for years) and the chrome plating has worn off in some spots.
