Lowered from $3,00 OBO to $2,200

This appears to be an extremely early George Nelson pedestal desk made for Herman Miller.
It may be from one of his well-known designers Charles Eames or Ray Eames as their teams were developing these lines together.
Walnut, steel, aluminum, original high-end Formica, oak drawers
54" Wide x 30" Deep x 29.25" High

Design, components and materials suggest a bit of research is needed as it may be a VERY rare piece of Mid Century Modern furniture

We believe it is an early version or final prototype made in the mid 1950s, NOT one of the later production models made by Herman Miller.
Any production models up for sale word wide were possibly copies of this one.
It may be one of the few in existence especially in this condition.
It could be an even earlier prototype, but it seems to us that it has early layout markings plus a few elements of preproduction models leading to the more commonly found production models.

We welcome any thoughts on complete authentication as this may be a very rare piece. And if it is not, such as proof of its existence in a manufacturer's catalog, then we will adjust the price.
However, everything points to a one-of-a-kind desk made by the best designers of their time.

Original owner's family had it since the late 1950s. All worked in high end design and medical fields and were connected to the right people to have acquired this from Herman Miller in the 1950s.

We also understand there were also custom made desks based on certain styles, so it may be a custom order desk. Not necessarily a prototype, but still not common. But the layout markings are too rough for standard custom order furniture which would normally have such marks removed.

COMPLETELY UNRESTORED

Solid oak dovetailed drawers

Welded and ground steel and aluminum frame

ORIGINAL Formica. Almost perfect condition especially considering its age of 65-75 years
