Drum Lessons with Matt Thompson (All Ages, All Skill Levels) (Northridge)

Location: I have a studio that’s set up with two drum sets, so all you need to bring are sticks. I’m located in the Northridge/North Hills area, Near the intersection of Nordhoff and Balboa. I also offer online lessons, via Skype, FaceTime, or Zoom.
Ages: I currently teach students of (almost) all ages. Kids should be 7 years old before starting drum lessons, and there’s no upper cut-off. I have a number of students in their 60s/70s.
Teaching Style: I try and keep the drum lessons as fun and as specific to the student as possible. Especially with adults, if you have something specific you want to work on please bring it in. Many people approach me and say they don’t want to learn to read music or learn the formal stuff they just want to rock and roll- and that’s fine! Reading and technique are super important in the long run, but you can take things pretty far just playing by ear. With kids I try and keep things a bit more structured, but there’s still a lot of playing music and I always try and cater the type of music we play to what the student is into. It's a lot easier and a lot more fun to learn songs that you’re already a bit familiar with.
Skill Levels: All are welcome. I have plenty of people just starting out, people that have been playing a while and want to take things to the next level, and people who have taken a long break and want to get back into it. When it comes to new drummers, I can say I’ve been doing this a long time and I know how to get you up and running fairly quickly. For more experienced drummers, my time studying and in music school has left me with a ton of concepts, worksheets, books, and general knowledge that I’d love to share with you.
Rates: $80 for a 1 hour lesson $50 for a 30 minute lesson
Prices are the same for the online lessons. For kids I recommend starting out with a half hour and taking it from there. Online lessons are typically best left at a half hour as well.
