Up for grabs here is hands-down THE finest example of a Martin Committee of any rank or era. We're re-homing several of a legendary musician client's top-tier instruments and this is one of THE best from any collection. The owner is honestly on the fence about selling this one, so if the reserve price isn't met, then the artist may keep the horn and the listing may end. Please note that the serial number has been obscured due to fraudulent reposting scams.
However, for as many vintage Martin Committee No. 3 / Large (#3 is an ML, technically) trumpets we've repped, this particular horn is almost like an apparition, in that it sounds better than any horn we've ever heard, as well as it looks practically brand new. So, if an immaculate Martin Committee Deluxe No. 3 bore with angelic tone is the Holy Grail, then we are confident that this example is the Holiest Grail. But the 24K finish and heavier feel of this horn only adds to the warmth and depth.
This masterpiece has all of the classic Committee traits and can bend anywhere you want to go with ease. Yet, this horn slots on the money and almost knows where you want to go. The tone is solid, warm, direct and will be extremely focused whenever you want it. This thing sounds ten times better than the best Committee we've heard up until we got this in. It's almost too good to let go.
Aside from the original 24K gold finish being near flawless, the horn has been well-maintained from a technical standpoint, as it was initially owned by a Jazz legend and then passed along to another legendary musician, who currently owns it. It's like the horn was kept in a vault for 67 years and handled by a horn tech who wore white gloves. But the horn was definitely used and played on some special recordings. The compression is excellent and nothing needs to be replaced. The action is smooth, quick and pure butter. The date of manufacture is accurate.
This 1959 Martin Committee Deluxe No. 3 Bore trumpet comes with the original pearl finger buttons as well as a set of matched heavy duty 24K gold custom finger buttons with opal inlays that feel so good and reduce compression travel as well as increase the speed. All of the bell engraving is perfect and the horn comes with a brand new Shires custom-fitted case made by Marcus Bonna.
There are some custom mouthpieces that the legendary musician is selling that are personally recommended for this horn. They are part of a massive mouthpiece collection we are also making available for sale. These recommendations are listed in one of the photos and you can either find them for sale in our store or inquire for details if they're not yet listed. Each of them are 5x 24K gold-plated and most of the vintage MPs were professionally restored and balanced by a master horn technician/builder. These are MPs you will never find again and are recommended by a player who is a master jazz player. THIS HORN DOES NOT COME WITH ANY MOUTHPIECES.
The horn is being sold on its merits alone, so please don't write in and ask for ownership/historical details. The new owner/buyer will have the option to request that info after purchase.
