1980’s Crate BE-18210 Bass Cabinet (SLM Era, Made in USA) – 2x10” + 1x18”
Here’s something you don’t see every day: A very rare early-to-mid 1980s Crate BE-18210 Bass Cabinet from the golden St. Louis Music (SLM) era, built right here in the USA. This is from the same legendary company that later revived Ampeg, and you can clearly see the shared DNA: the black tolex, metal corners, handles and classic silver/black grille cloth all echo the look of the Ampeg cabinets of the time. It even used many of the same supply materials, including the speakers.
This cabinet features a unique and powerful 2x10" + 1x18" speaker configuration, delivering a surprisingly full-range tone that combines clarity, punch, and depth. Rated at 160 watts @ 4 ohms, it was designed during the tube amp and lower-wattage era, making it a perfect match for vintage-style heads or modern low- to mid-powered rigs that appreciate warm, musical character.
Despite its commanding look (almost like a mini “fridge”), it’s actually more compact than you’d expect, noticeably smaller than an Ampeg 6x10” or 2x15”, and it fits easily in most SUV trunks.
Aesthetically, it's in Excellent for its age. All speakers appear original and function perfectly. Tolex, grille, and hardware are all clean and intact with only light signs of use.
A piece of SLM/Ampeg history, and a seriously cool vintage bass cabinet that delivers both tone and vibe.
