Own the “famous classic”: MACKIE 8-Bus 24.8 Analog Console w/ Meterbridge, power supply and SKB case.
Verified well known users of this type of mixer include The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Shpongle, Mick Jagger, Vangelis, Aerosmith, Bootsy Collins and many more. Almost "everyone" seemed to use one of them at some point.
Here’s literally a "time-capsule" example of a 1990’s MACKIE 24.8 8-Bus Analog Console.
It spent the last 7 years while I had it in its snuggly fitting SKB case (Case model: SKB SKB-4031 ATA Mixer Safe 40" x 31" Universal Case).
Even the SKB case looks like it hasn’t been moved around all that much... it just needs a good cleaning on the outside.
I never used this mixer while I owned it and kept it in its “capsule.” I only tested it for functionality.
I got the impression that the previous owner also didn’t use it for quite some time (and not a whole lot), before I picked it up as part of a “bundle deal” around 7 years ago. The mixer looks clean with barely any signs of use - like an old hobby from before having a family ;)
The Mixer was stored safely in their garage when I picked it up, inside its SKB case.
(Along with a bunch of other music gear from the Mackie 24.8’s era (90s/early 2000s) that I got in that same “must take all” deal, back then).
The console has been modified before I owned it, and provides 3 ELCO/EDAC multi-channel connectors for:
LINE INPUTS
TAPE RETURNS
MISC. OUTPUTS
From what I understand, these connectors just “tap/split” the signal at the regular jacks, but I have not personally tested the ELCO/EDAC*s for lack of a compatible snake for that.
Also, to give clearance to connect ELCO/EDAC based snakes to the mixer’s bottom plate (which is where they were added), there are two custom-made (but primitive) brackets that tilt the mixer forward when on an even surface (like on a table), and give a clearer view of the controls on top. Pretty convenient, actually, and both, the stands and many of the cable connections will be out of sight when the mixer is set up for use.
I did go through all the channels to test if they work when I first got it, and that was all good. I powered it on again just now for the pictures, and noticed that the 2 VU-Meters don’t light up - they otherwise work fine, though (see pic with them in action). Apparently their light bulbs went out, which is a pretty common thing from what I understand.
The mixer fits into the SKB case WITH the (semi-)permanently attached (aka “screwed on”) mixer-stand-legs shown in the pictures.
I’ll sell the mixer WITHOUT the SKB case for $500.
I’ll sell the mixer WITH the SKB case for $700
(I’m not selling the case separately, b/c I have another use for it, for another similarly sized digital mixer that I’ll need to move, soon. The SKB case is only available together with the 24.8 mixer, and only if I get enough money on top of the mixer, to have it make sense for me).
*The ECLO/EDAC connectors themselves look clean/new-ish and not as if they’d have been reconnected frequently (as they would have been, if this board would have been used live or had been on a tour). These look like they were connected, and left like that.
My guess is, that the modification was done for a cleaner studio-environment with fewer visible cables. Otherwise, IF the modification would have been for live use, I’d think they’d have put the Mic-Pres on an ELCO/EDAC to be able to quickly connect a stage-box, instead. For faster setup times… and not the above listed ins/outs - that’s the stuff you need in the studio. And the mixer looks too clean… no way this has been toured. Or maybe the previous owner’s intention was to start a PA business, but it didn't work out and he mothballed the whole thing… nor sure.
In any case, I think this was someone “wholesaling” their old hobby, after having to be a responsible adult with a kid on the way ;)
I thought I'd find a use for it, some day, but will be moving in a few months and can't bring it, so I'm selling it.
