I’m selling my “oversized” Mesa 4x12 4FB with its original “Made in England” Celestion Vintage 30 speakers in it - so, it has MASSIVE low-end.
All four Vintage 30s are original to the cab, 8 Ohm, made in England and labeled like the one in the picture (444 cone).
Also, this is the rare and desirable “straight front / slanted baffle” version of the cabinet.
It has the benefit of projecting sound upwards towards your ears like a slanted cab (and makes it easier to hear on stage if used as a half-stack), but has a full-sized top panel that also allows to use it as a bottom cab when used as part of a full stack.
These are hard to find (especially if you don’t want to have one shipped across the country) - it took me almost a year to find this version of the cab at the time, but I’m preparing to move overseas early next year and can’t bring it with me.
This cab has seen the road and the tolex and grille cloth have mojo - the construction itself is solid! (See pictures)
But hey… some people pay money to give their guitars a fake road-worn look - the look on this cab is authentic and lets the world know that you’re not a weekend warrior who got into the game only yesterday, haha.
There’s one problem with it, and that’s that one of the Vintage 30 speakers has a ripped cone and needs to be re-coned. The other three Vintage 30 speakers are good.
If you get that done, it should cost about $100… or cheaper, if you get a recone kit and do it yourself.
You’d think it would sound awful with that ripped cone… but I didn’t even notice until I opened the cab and saw the issue. So… you could still play it like this in a pinch, but that one V30 should REALLY be re-coned.
As for the price… again, this isn’t “any old Mesa 4x12” but the rare straight/slant variant. You’d pay at least that $100 extra for this version, than for the much more common straight OR slant Mesa cabs (at least if the seller knows what they have)… anyway… I’m not yet in a hurry to sell, and have time to wait for someone who appreciates what this is.
Thanks for reading and let me know if you have any questions or need more pictures.
