VO Actors Needed For Read-Through of Dialogue For New Musical (Burbank)

compensation: Pay breakdown is in the post
Need VO talent for speaking dialogue only. No singing required.

This is the period (the 70’s) story of three young men from New York who form a band and reach moderate stardom before it all falls apart and have to learn to move on.

We will be recording for only one 12-hour day. None of the roles will be required to stay that length of time, however. We will be providing meals.

This will be a paid gig, of course, but we’re on a tight budget. We’re offering $150 for the main roles, $100 for the supporting roles, $50 for bit parts. This is commensurate with the time needed as well. We might cast actors for more than one role.

For the submission, please attach an audio file of any previous VO work and/or demo reel of VO talent range showing the breadth of voices and accents one can do, etc. Resume as well, and headshots are optional. They’d be nice to have but won’t be a determining factor.

In the subject of the email, include your name then a “-“ then the character you most identify with and want to submit for. Pick just one, please. Below is a brief breakdown of each character.

Band Member 1 (18yo) - The Songwriter. Neurotic. Nervous. Always second guessing the direction of the band, and their decisions. Risk averse. Always wanting to play by the rules. Always the last to come around on an idea or plan of action. Witty. Creative and thoughtful. The quietest member of the band.

Band Member 2 (19yo) - The Talented Musician. He’s the best at his instrument, and is known for it across the industry. He’s even been given a nickname for it. Confident. The funniest member of the group. Has a way of stealing the show, even though he’s not the front man. Assertive. Always knows what he wants from everyone around him. Becomes the leader and driving force of the band. Loyal and level-headed. Doesn’t get swept up in the drama, it’s always purely business and successfully completing their artistic goals.

Band Member 3 (17yo) - The Frontman. He ended up being the frontman by mistake. It was supposed to be Band Member 1, but he had the superior voice. He didn’t seek the limelight, but flourished in the role…at first. He’s the third wheel. The odd man out. He’s wishy-washy, unreliable, goes from aloof to intense in the blink of an eye. Very inconsistent both as a friend, a business partner, and worst of all - as a performer. He’s easily loved by regular everyday people, but he tends to rub those in the music business the wrong way continually. A habitual line stepper. Addiction prone. Emotionally unstable.

Band Member 4 (20yo) - The Replacement. A quiet, unassuming, compliant new member that comes in to replace BM3 when they part ways with him. He’s cool and confident in his own skills, and knows he’s better than BM3, but doesn’t overtly act like it. He readily gets on the bands program while having his own secret goals at play. He makes his move when the rest of the band is at their weakest.

Band Manager (55yo) - A sharp-tongued, but passionate advocate for musicians and talent. He owns a rock club in New York, and this band is the first he’s personally managing. He sees them as his ticket out of the club scene, and in to the world of artist management. Fiercely loyal to BM1 and BM2, openly despises BM3. Explosive temper and vindictive, but always in service of protecting his boys.

Girlfriend 1 (19yo) - Girlfriend of BM2. She’s supportive, level-headed, inspirational, and always has her priorities in the right place. Always knows what to say to pick up the love of her life when he’s down. They have a healthy and functional relationship, and she closely guards that, knowing that the life of a musicians girl isn’t always going to be easy.

Girlfriend 2 (18yo) - Girlfriend of BM1. She’s a star chaser, ambitious, self-focused and singularly motivated. She works in the industry and is a bit of a climber. She’s related to industry figures so she can maneuver in the world of musical talent. She loves BM1 but her love is conditional. Only wants him when his star is on the rise.

Girlfriend 3 (35yo) - Milf lover of BM3. They meet at a bar in Boston while they’re on tour. She is the first sophisticated lover he’s had and they swirl in to a twisted love affair fueled by booze , risky behavior and non-stop partying. She’s buxom in physicality AND personality. Huge sex drive and sex appeal. Easy for a young man to become obsessed with. Is fiercely loyal to BM3, but she feeds his insecurities and growing distrust of his bandmates, and the business itself.

BM3 Mother (48yo) - Typical loving and mourning mother. Has one very intense scene where she’s grieving the loss of her son. Articulate and powerful with her words.
