I think my grandparents brought this doll home from a trip to Japan in the 1960s or early 1970s. She sat is their guest bathroom for decades and always was off-limits to curious children. The doll is in her original glass and wood case, which has a mirrored back to better show her off. I cleaned the outside of the glass, but did not take it apart due to the fragile nature of the glass. It could use a good cleaning on the inside of the case. The doll herself has never been touched. She still has an original piece of clear plastic holding her hair in place (this obscures her face a bit in the pictures). The doll is 8" tall and wears a red kimono with a gold belt. She appears to be playing a drum and wears an elaborate headdress which incorporates small flowers and a silver butterfly. There is a wooden stelae at the bottom right with two Japanese characters, sorry to say I don't know what they signify. The entire display case measures 11" high by 7 3/8" wide by 6 1/4" deep.
